Honda Bringing New Fit to New York Auto Show

The 2009 Honda Fit will make its debut at the New York auto show next month. We’ve already seen what the Fit will look like, as it debuted in Japan last year, but we‘ll still have to wait until the New York show to get more specifics, especially regarding mileage and when the new Fit will go on sale.

An improvement on an already amazing vehicle -- I can't wait!

This will likely be our next vehicle purchase. A good car to pass along to my son in 4 years when he goes to college.

Seeing as the current Fit does not have:
Traction control, just an open differential (but there is 2nd gear start with the automatic)

Stability control, is that even worth developing when you have drum rear brakes (it is 'nimble' at the cost of stability)

A sensible steering ratio, the current ratio is 12.8:1 (do not sneeze while driving) The '08 Corolla has a grandma friendly 19.5:1. The '09 corolla is 17.4, and in XRS trim is 16.3:1

any improvement on these would be welcome.
and what about the spare wheel? Will the US market get a mini-spare, run-flats, or a compressor/sealant?

Not as good looking on the exterior than the old one in my opinion but the yellow shows best. The interior is an improvement with a sporty steering wheel and C-class like gauges. The big glass roof will probrably only come over in a special edition. The problem with the current Fit is the price and how every dealer big and small are price gouging on what should be a sub-14,000 car. Current ads include a new Aveo5=6998, Yaris 3-door=11,000 and Mazda3=11,000. Fits are overpriced by both Honda and their dealers. I bought my Integra Brand New for 14,000 back in 97'. (As left over stock fom 96')

Last time I checked, only the Yaris is close to that number. Fit is overpriced?
For one thing, it offers a 5AT when everyone else is still a 4AT. Plus, the Mazda3 is not even its competitor. That's the Civic's job.

About a million times better-looking than the current model, but still somewhat awkward and oddly-defined (especially for a Honda), in particular that rear three-quarter view. It also looks far more functional than the current model, which is just a bit too small.

Of course it's pretty hard to tell for sure until you see one in person; I never realized just how doofy the current model looked until I was standing next to one. IMO it's one of the most oddly disproportionate cars on the road today -- it's too tall for its stance, the hood-to-windshield line is atrocious, and the tires are too narrow to the proportions of the vehicle as a whole. It's very "upright" and angular, not in a good way.

I'm still holding out hope that Toyota will bring the Auris to the US, but in the meantime I'm eager to see this new Fit in person. I feel the compact hatchback is due to a rebirth in the US; they've always been extremely popular overseas, but seem to fade in and out of favor with US buyers.

I think that the new Fit is a great improvement on an already fantastic automobile. It looks better, it will have more safety equipment, and it will have more creature comfort--how can you go wrong? I have a 2007 Fit, which I got in July of 2006 and my wife and I both love the car. It is fun to drive, thrifty in that it sips gas, and it can haul a lot when you need to. The new Fit can only be better!
