Cadillac Provoq Hydrogen Concept

Cadillac Provoq

  • Looks like: Cadillac slapped a grille on a Saturn Vue
  • Defining characteristics: Escalade grille, hydrogen power
  • Ridiculous features: Clear-covered wheels so they look normal but are really aerodynamic
  • Chance of being mass-produced: None with hydrogen power; but as a small Cadillac SUV…

Instead of making a splash in Detroit next week, GM is using the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to debut this hydrogen-powered Cadillac concept today. The underlying technology is similar to what has been planned for the Chevy Volt and an overseas concept called the Opel Flextreme.

The hydrogen-powered Provoq would travel 300 miles on a single fill of 13.2 pounds of hydrogen, held in two storage tanks under the rear cargo floor. There are also solar panels installed on the roof to power interior electronics and lighting. In true concept fashion, the already elaborate Cadillac grille has louvers that close at highway speeds to improve aerodynamics and open at low speeds to cool the fuel-cell stack.

Will we see a hydrogen-powered small SUV from Cadillac at dealers anytime soon? No way. Could we see a regular gas version of this concept at a dealer really soon? Probably. The new Saturn Vue is close to a luxury interior as it is, so Cadillac wouldn’t have to do much to adapt it. Check out the pictures below and tell us what you think.

OOOOH LOVE the tail lights!

Maybe the SRX is getting downsized?

Well, the design cues (headlights & taillights)look realistic, jut put the real grille on their and lose the fancy show stuff (wheels, mirrors, solar panels) and it could be a real production vehicle. The interior, save for the gauges looks pretty similar to the new CTS.

it does remind me of the saturn vue although the small things lke the mirrors, top tail lights, and door handles just make it that little bit more appealing, also i love the sharp lines heading more in a contemporary design. BUT i would still have to say the Australian Ford Territory and Territory F6X look much better

I like it! I just wish they would start producing such cars for real and not PR. Can we move in a positive direction???
So tired of all the promises from car producers. Some of us are willing to take extra steps to conserve and use alternative fuels. Can someone build a true hybrid that doesn't look like it was made for bubble boy?? Come on people..
