2009 Passat CC Will Park Itself
The four-door coupe body style isn't the only new aspect of the just-debuted Passat CC. The VW will feature a park assist system — as part of an option package — that will steer the car into a parking spot using cameras, sensors and software much like the new Lexus LS.
Drivers will control the braking and acceleration during the maneuver, but the car will turn the steering wheel to fit into a tough spot.
Pricing hasn't been finalized for the CC, but we know it will start in the mid- to high-$20,000 range and could easily top $40,000 when well-equipped with features like park assist. That's still roughly $20,000 less than the Lexus LS460 that parks itself. We wonder how long it'll take for this technology to get to a $20,000 car.

What is the deal with cars parking themselves?
If you can't park your own car you shouldn't have a license.
What's the point in VW owning Audi if they are "still" trying to move up market? VW needs to go back and fcous on "farfegnugen". Plus, who's going to buy this when they can get an A6 V-6 with the same look around $45K.
Wasn't it VW, by means of Audi, that released a commercial making fun of the Lexus parking itself. How ironic.
I'm sure "car can park itself" is high on alot of car buyers Must Have features list when they are looking for a vehicle...
I'd hate for that feature to "act up".
If we've people like B. Spears or P. Hilton...park itself feature is a definite "MUST-HAVE" :)
1. those adds were then rebuted by Lexus with the GS comercials, calling the said parking menuver undignified. this is probably VW/Audi's "haha, we can do this better than you" respose.
2. the European version of the Tiguan and the Touran already park themselves. So, VW had it first.
i agree with troy on this one. is the system 100% accurate? if it "acts up", will your insurance claim agent (or the guy in the parking lot your car hit) believe an excuse like "the car did it"?
I still think a *shrewd* lawmaker should pass a law that you CANNOT use these aids when taking your road test for your Driver's Licence.
"Parralell parking is easy, I just push a button"
Parks itself, but driver has to step on the gas and brake? How in the world does the car park itself without even controlling the gas itself?
I like it
