Whoa! Speed Racer: First Movie Images, Video

We were pretty excited to hear that the people behind the "Matrix" trilogy would jump back into the movie game with a live-action update of "Speed Racer," a classic cartoon featuring a gadget-filled racecar, mysterious characters and a chimp named Chim Chim. Today, we get our first look at shots from the movie, and it looks like a wild ride.

In the image above, the Mach 5 seems to be racing in front of a fully-computer-generated backdrop. The wild colors and cartoonish proportions could mean this is a movie for kids — or knowing the background of the producers, maybe the colorful landscape will mask a darker story. The overwhelming theme is about not selling out, clearly a stab at the NASCAR nation. Check out more pictures courtesy of Warner Bros. and the video of the trailer below.
