New 2009 Pontiac Vibe Price Drops $1,500

The 2009 Pontiac Vibe is all-new and will hit dealerships in February. Along with a new exterior, interior and engines — which we can only assume will be an upgrade over the aging design they replace — the new Vibe will start $1,545 less than the 2008. Starting MSRP will be $15,310, versus the 2008’s $16,855 price.

Besides the manual transmission, this isn’t a totally stripped vehicle. All Vibes come with ABS, four-wheel-disc brakes, six airbags and stability control standard.

All-wheel drive and GT models return to the Vibe lineup for 2009, starting at $18,910 and $19,310, respectively. Both come with a more powerful 158-hp engine standard. None of the prices include a $585 destination charge.

That can only help the Vibe sell better. Does this car sell well? I don't see very many of them on the road. I think the 158-hp engine will be the top engine for the vibe (at least from what I have read so far elsewhere). It would be cool if they would make a GXP version of the all wheel drive vibe that could take on the wrx/mazdaspeed3/caliber srt4 cars. How hard would it be to throw in the Solstice 2.0L turbocharged direct injected engine? (I do realize the Vibe is a platform mate with the Corolla and the Matrix) and this is probably not possible. Or is it?

The Matrix is also going to be priced $1500 less than last year's model.

short of some awesome deal, why on earth should i buy a 2008 of either the vibe or matrix? and don't know if matrix 2008 is new, but why did pontiac have a new design for 2008?

We test drove a 2007 Vibe when we were last car shopping. We both thought it was awful. The manual may have been better but with the automatic the acceleration was terrible. When trying to merge on to the highway it just roared in an unhappy way and went nowhere. The added horsepower I think is a much needed thing, the old engine was just not enough power for this car in a busy area like this. Even the Prius seemed to out accelerate this car.

Other parts of this car had us turned off too from the moonroof that opened slower then any I had ever seen and had a motor that sounded as underpowered as what drove the car. The accelerator had a strange touchy sensation that made it seem quick till about 5 or 10mph and then nothing much after that, I think first gear was just geared low.

I would be curious to try the new model but we moved on and purchased something else after this lousy experience with no regrets.

I guess one of the standard features is: ugly.

I haven't seen one up close and personal, but I think in a beauty contest the Pontiac Aztek might be crowned the winner. I'm getting bad "Vibes" with this thing.

I'm sure in person it will be drop dead gorgeous. Not!

The local Pontiac dealer must have a voodoo priest on the sales staff because there are LOTS of Vibes in my area. Late 1st gen models, sold (leased?) to all sorts of people.

They must have run a good promotion on the sales price on them. (buy for LESS than STICKER!!!)

I think they're better looking than the Matrix, but either way they're not my type of ride.
