Recall Alert: 1.2 Million Ford Trucks, SUVs, Vans

2001fordexcursion

A faulty engine sensor has caused a massive recall of 1997-2003 Ford Super Duty pickups, Excursion SUVs and E-Series vans outfitted with a 7.3-liter diesel engine. The defective part can degrade over time and cause the engine to stall.

Ford reports there have been 14 accidents or incidents when the vehicles lost control. Letters will be sent to owners later this month.

F.O.R.D. Doesn't that stand for Found On Road Dead? Literally in this case.

Ohhh where are all the import bashers now? Hmm? Hmm? waiting....

did toyota not just have a large recall as well on its beloved hybrid.

The funny thing about the previous comment is that there is not much import bashing on here compared to the domestic bashing. I see lots of domestic defending- maybe that can be misconstrued as import bashing. Most of the negative things written on here about imports are true- and there aren't many. I liken this whole japanese vs domestic thing to a person with low self esteem. People with low self esteem are usually the first ones to bully or put someone else down. I don't remember the last time I read anyone putting their german car on a pedestal and putting down a japanese or domestic car- because it is stupid. Why bother. If you are so sure that your car is supperior and nothing can come close to it, why bother belittling all the other cars which are inferior to yours. Maybe you don't really believe your car is all that better. Something to think about.

Can we just leave it at the fact that all manufacturers unfortunately have to issue recalls. Some more serious than others. Some impacting more owners than others. Some in closer proximity to others.

If you sell a bazillion cars a recall will likely include more vehicles than a company selling in the hundreds of thousands. This recall was due to a part degrading over the course of ten years it seems. It didn't snap off right off the assembly line. That doesn't mean we shouldn't alert owners to the problem and get the word out there. And yes at the end of the year folks round up the most recalled brand/model and we'll all take a look at that and it will give a better idea on who is the worst offender etc. But the results usually surprise people.

yada, yada, yada. IMO it's better to recall a vehicle than to ignore a potentially dangerous problem. Again, who actually made the offending part? The name of that company should be identified as well.
