2008 Detroit Auto Show: Hummer HX Concept Preview

Imagine your first job out of college is working for GM’s design studio. Sounds cool, right? Then the company decides to hand you the reins in a project to design a major concept car that will debut at the granddaddy of all auto shows. That’s what GM did with three young designers and Hummer’s HX concept. The Hummer HX is aimed at the Jeep Wrangler as a two-door offroad-enthusiast dream machine that has a high likelihood of going into production.

The three designers worked as a team, but each one came up with a distinct design. Only one of the three versions will win GM’s final approval and appear under the lights in Detroit. Our bet is on the Kang HX above. Check out all three sketches below.

Slap a turbo diesel engine with a stick shift in that thing and I might consider it.

Otherwise it's going to be another gas guzzler.

The Rojas HX looks an awful lot like a 'roided up FJ Cruiser...

yeah I doubt they go with a pale blue just for that reason.

How about putting a 6 speed auto into the H3 before the Hummer brand expands?

GM should get out of the Hummer business. Spending millions of dollars on the Hummer is like spending millions of dollars on the deck chairs of the Titanic.

Even if the Hummer was fuel efficient with a bright future, why would 22-year-old college graduates get the job? That makes no sense. No wonder GM has problems.

why not putting a diesel engine and i might buy myself a hummer other than that ill stick to the fj cruiser or a jeep

That Rojas sketch looks Nothing Like the FJ. I think its just the color. The FJ is a square back and has a white top. And also FJ stole allot of styling from Hummer. I think That Blue sketch is pretty sweet. Hopefully the show car looks like that.

That red sketch is so GROSSSSS :P I hope that's not going to be the HX. I agree with John P. the blue sketch doesn't look anything like an Fj. Id take the one that Rojas did :) That's my pick.

Too BAD!!! no brainer design.

1,too small too compact. only carry 2 adults, no kids, no pets, otherwise, no room for outdoor stuff. Soluion: make it 4 doors, or at least 2.5 door like your truck.

2, open top?? WTF is that? where is roof rack? no? where to carry my surf board? canon, camping bag,....? Solution: make it a large sunroof, like some other suv at the market.

3, awful interior design, it is NOT cool at all. save money on those trash, and give me more room inside. Solution: back to earth pls, make it working on earth, not MArs.

4, powertrain, cron is not the finally solution to oil shortage we are facing. it is temporary answer at best. Solution: Go SOLAR, at least hybrid with SOLAR power, like Toyota does right now.

No credit to those designers, they have long way to go to be qualified for making CONCEPT!!
