Honda to Unveil New Pilot at Detroit

Pilot

Honda plans to show off its new, more-space-age Pilot at the auto show in Detroit next month. This may be just in time, as sales of the Pilot dipped to 106,743 vehicles this year, according to Autodata, a drop of about 22%. With the onslaught of two- and three-row crossovers onto the marketplace, Honda needs a Pilot that can compete against newer models with tons of features. Honda hopes the revamped three-row SUV can regain some of that ground, although in the age of increasingly prized fuel efficiency, that may be difficult.

I'm excited to see the new Honda Pilot, as someone who bought the '03 Honda Pilot within a week of its release (necessity, not impulse), I still love it after all these years, and will probably replace my Pilot after it finally hits the dust (not holding my breath, though... haha, its a Honda).

We also bought a '03 Pilot and still have it after 122k trouble free miles. I wasn't crazy about buying a Honda as we were always a JGC family. After lemon lawing two JGC's, an '01 and a '03, it was time to change. My wife loves our Pilot so much that she says we can replace it with anything as long it's another Pilot. We will buy the new Pilot, but still keep our current one as a third vehicle. Our other car is a Camry (company car) and it has proven to be bullet proof too.

It might be similar to the new MDX, I assume.
So the SH-AWD will be offered in Honda as well?

We decided to buy an '06 Pilot after seeing spy pics ciculating the web. I know it was a prototype but typically the proportions will end up being what they sale and we didn't care for it. I will definitely have to see it in person (Auto show). I hope its a super knockout because GM has everyone beat in this class with the Acadia/Outlook/Enclave combo. Also, the new Pilot will be a bust (to me) if you can't get a nav AND dvd entertainment system like GM's.

Why get the navi that increased the MSRP, increases interest paid over the entire loan (or lease), decreases the residential value of the vehicle, when you can get an aftermarket one for way less?

If you combine the sales of the Acadia/Outlook/Enclave - their total through Nov was only 16,000 more than the Pilot. Thats the sales of 3 vehicles competing against one vehicle.

as a civic owner.. im looking forward to the new pilot.. if its as good as i hope.. its my next vehicle for sure... pilot wont be flashy, but it will deliver good results

I'm surprised that Honda is still selling 100,000+ of the Pilots a year. Considering that it's at the end of it's life cycle a lot manufacturers would love to sell that many. Personally I don't like or dislike the Pilot as I'm a car person, but Honda must be doing something right.
