Blog Gets First Knight Rider Photos: KITT's a Mustang!
Jalopnik, a car blog that takes an irreverent look at the automotive industry, posted the first pictures of the car that will play KITT in the upcoming NBC TV-movie remake of “Knight Rider.“ The car is a new Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500KR. The trademark side-to-side red lights up front fit under the Shelby’s air intakes. We’re not sure how the extra air will get to the 550-hp engine, however.
We’re not sure if we’re excited or totally bummed by this news. Check out Jalopnik’s post to see more photos, and tell us if you think “Knight Rider“ will be a hit or bomb as bad as the new “Bionic Woman.“

Wow... I know I'm bummed. The only true KITT will be a black Trans Am with black wheels and a totally awesome but not practical steering wheel. Shame on Pontiac and GM for not giving the producers anything to work with. Shame.

It's a travesty!

As pitiful as the decision to remake Knight Rider is, as abhorrent as the choice of car is, the truly odious thing is that this will almost certainly yield *another* special edition Mustang.
Oh, and won't the GT500KR be a previous gen car by the time that the show debuts.

I thought when the remake "Knight Rider 2000" was shown, the new Knight 4000 was the future of the Knight Foundation (it was a heavily bodyworked Dodge Stealth FWD looking a lot like a Pontiac Banshee). And it was red! Talk about a complete switch from black.I cant quite picture a short, stubby KITT (like I couldnt picture a subcompact General Lee),these cars were meant to be long, low and wide.

It's funny, our trackback over at Jalopnik reads:
"Kicking Tires, a blog that takes a slightly boringly corporate and predictable approach to covering the auto industry..."

Using a Mustang as KITT is almost like using a Ford Windstar as the A-Team van. Can you imagine those guys jumping out of that minivan? It's just WRONG!

survey says...errrt. wrong answer.
a G8 would have been an obvious choice, a 2008 vibe would have been a bit more creative. jeers to GM for letting ford steel this opportunity.

They should have used a black Corvette Z06.

How about a mocked up Trans-Am based on the new Camaro?

NBC has probably given the show a tiny budget because its only good for a season. So all they could afford was a $20k Mustang. They could have really sold the show if they used a Dodge Viper (which was probaly out of their budget)...

I think they shouldve used the camaro....Think about it. A BumbleBee and Knight Rider Special Edition Camaro's for the public.

i am bummed as well i grew up on knight rider. they could have used a 02 trans am ws6. where are the t-tops is my main question

as for it being a $20K mustang its more like a $60k mustang. remember its a shelby gt500kr. (kr stands for King Of The Road)

I doubt that the cost of the vehicle was a big factor in their decision since any carmaker would gladly donate an example or two to a show if it meant that it was going to be a main character. Especially if it is going to be portrayed positively.
I'm sure the twelve people that see it won't mind that it isn't the original

We have to take into account that the movie goers are usually people between 12-25, so I don't think anybody of them has watched the original series... :)

I watched Knight Rider when I was still a kid, but don't remember actually the looks of the car. A lot of here are very upset regarding the remake but I think it could bring much more excitement on the viewers side.

Wow... I own a 2008 Mustang GT, and this is the perfect car. The 500KR costs about 75 grand, not 20 grand you dorks... Mustangs rock!! You guys suck, the car choice is perfect... I wonder if Kitt has the Shaker1000 audio system?
