2007 L.A. Auto Show: 2009 Lincoln MKS
- Competes with: Lexus ES 350, Acura TL, Cadillac CTS
- Looks like: An elegant front end pasted onto a generic sedan body
- Drivetrain: 270-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 with six-speed automatic transmission
- Hits dealerships: Summer 2008
To say the MKS is an important model for Lincoln is just scratching the surface. The brand has been looking for a hit to stand apart from corporate siblings Ford and Mercury, and an upscale sedan is something it can hold up as its own.
The MKS delivers some remarkable styling in what will be a sub-$38,000 sedan package. Powering the sedan is a 3.7-liter V-6 engine similar to the one used in the Lincoln MKX SUV. Lincoln promises that a more powerful turbo six-cylinder will be added to the lineup later in the year. No price was given for that model.
There are a number of luxury features Lincoln is putting into the MKS. We haven’t gotten a breakdown of which are standard and which are pricier options, but we know the MKS will have the new Sync hands-free system, voice-activated navigation, a cap-less fuel-filling system, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry … and, strangely enough, a new version of the old-school keypad on the door.
All that won’t matter if the looks don’t win folks over. The MKS is certainly more interesting than anything Lincoln has turned out of late, even the MKX. We’ll let the photos below do some of the talking and hope to learn more later in the day.

Beautiful. Nice job, Lincoln. And I'm not even a Ford fan!
A great step forward for Lincoln.
I dig it!

Good Job Lincoln. The front end and center console looks very Volvo inspired, which the rear looks Jaguar inspired. Go Lincoln! Only thing left to be desired is a better steering wheel and gauges.
Its a little dull but it certainly looks expensive and the features are top notch.
I personally and glad they are keeping the old school keypad. It seems silly, until you start using it ALL the time. While others are hiding keys in wheel wells and fuel doors when they go for a run or something like that, mine are safely locked (albeit hidden) in my car.
I just hope that Lincoln goes balls to the wall with this one. Spend money a little more money on better that average materials and people will notice and not mind spending a little more, ie lexus.
I agree that it is definitely an improvement and heading in the right direction!
Ive got to jump on the bandwagon here. I really do like this new redesign. They definitely took some styling cues from last years concept car. The only part of the car im a bit iffy on are the taillights, which seem to be reminicent of the Saturn Vue or a Daewoo from a few years back. Overall very nice car though. Please carry over the split grille vert bar design to the other vehicles. I hate the cheese grater grille on the MKX and the Navigator.
Any posiblity of catching a few shots or the engine compartment? I would like to see if its nearly as sweet looking as last years concept.
LOVE the exterior, HATE the interior, and i feel very shallow saying that!!!
IMO just looks like they updated the MKZ again, not quite as kewl looking as the concept. I think the CTS interior is better looking! The rear end reminds me of an early 90's Rover. BTW, new '09 Nissan Murano pix on my flickr page!!
There's really nothing distinguishing about this design. It's rather a combination of different sedans from various automakers. I see a lot of Mitsubishi Galant in the front, Infiniti M45 in the profile, and Cadillac CTS in the rear. Kinda boring, in my opinion.
really nice car, but come on lets give it more horsepower, my family has been a ford motorcompany fans for years but because of their super dutys, but their cars and SUV'S not at all Ford needs to add more horsepower to all thier cars and SUV'S in order for their cars to retain their resale value. i love the expediton limited but i would rather stick with a yukon denali because they got over 340 horses on the engines.Sorry i got out of subject but hopefully the company reads this and take action on what the customers want i never thought nissan would beat the F.150 with their titan or the tundra. :(FORD superduties are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is this? An upscale MKZ?
Why would someone want it to be FF in that price range?
The first pic looks like a chrysler sebring rebadged - thats not a good thing !!
Although I don't like the tails on this car, I wonder if they'll go onto the next facelift of SUV.
Vertical whites inboard of vertical reds are probably the only thing that HAVEN'T been done yet on the back of these trucks.
The front looks nicer than the MKZ's, but I thought it was the MKZ’s job to take on the Acura TL and Lexus ES? Is this the MKZ’s replacement? Will this be rwd since it’ll try to take on the CTS as well? If so, then you should’ve included the Infiniti G35, BMW 3 series, Merc C class, Lexus IS as its competitors.
GREAT LOOK, WHY DO LINCOLN NEW MODELS COME OUT WITH LOW POWER MODELS VS COMPETETERS.
IF YOU WANT TO WOW THE CONSUMER WITH A LUXURY/SPORT SEDAN, START WITH WITH A COMPETATIVE ENGINE; GIVE ME SOME HORSEPOWER NOW!
Sorry Folks but this is NO Flagship or Town Car replacement or a Lexus competitor, It looks like a "mid" level if that "insert make". No V8 in a Lincoln Flagship?? Stretch it out to about a 117" wheelbase, Make it Rear wheel Drive, give it V8 power, keep all the added ammenities it has, keep the styling (even though it is not ground breaking it is in keeping with what's out there now), give it Self Leveling "Full Air" rear suspension for a little comfort, give it a "stand up" Lincoln Star hood Ornament, Call it a Town Car, offer it in a touring configuration and a "designer" configuration. and watch them sell.. That is the last thing we need is another look alike import clone attempting to pass itself off as a half baked Lexus competitor when it is barely in the class of the Buick Lucerne, Which DOES offer a V8 As does Lexus and EVERY other SERIOUS luxury Brand, What a Joke I think they missed the mark again.
One more Thing.... If the MKR was at my local Lincoln Dealer today, I'd have one Tomorrow! THAT would make a Lincoln FLagship. But the MKS ??? Might as Well go for a Fully Loaded , Avalon, Maxima, Accord, Lacrosse, Impala, or this one is really scary .. a Kia "Amante" Seriously!! It has a feature list as long as the MKS and is $$$ less money with a 10 year warranty !!! Heck it even looks like the MKS or wait ... The MKS looks like a Saturn ? Accord , Malibu ?? Wha ?? Now I'm confused MK WHAT?? or was that Zepher KZ MKX R S ??? Who makes it ?? Some New Korean import ? Do They Still make Lincolns?
