Teens Design $9,000 Nissan Concept

Nissanpure

A team of four Brooklyn high school students recently won a contest to design a $9,000 Nissan aimed directly at their generation. The slightly boxy, BMW 2002-esque Pure concept was the result. Unfortunately, since it’s just a design concept, nothing about features has been mocked up. We’re wondering why Nissan would aim at a $9,000 basic-transport car. Could a no-frills econobox — with teen-influenced style — be on the way?

Before that, they could have brought the Cube over.

Designed by teens..... for teens.

C'mon guys. Give these kids some credit. An actual auto manufacturer liked their work. I'd say there's some talent there.

A simple RWD econobox would sell like wildfire (510 anyone?)

You sell it cheap but leave enough room under the hood for Turbo, SC, or v8 conversions.

So the entry level buyer can buy one, but the enthusisist can use it as a starting point for mods.

Its good that kids have come up with some initiative and nice design.

But they should know that a Trunk has too little space and should go for a Hatch.

If they go for vacation and put an Icebox, it will occupy the whole Trunk, they have to keep the baggage on their lap.

Just about anyone can make a model like this, without thinking about the specs and mechanical stuffs. What credit deserved to be given?

Phaeton

Yeah, Im afraid i will have to agree with J here. I dont mean to be a jerk but this car was made decades ago. They just smoothed out (a little) a Datsun 510 and gave it bigger wheel wells so you can put on big rims which most likely will not come standard on a 9k econobox. Drop in door handles and side view mirrors and this "concept" will not hold up at all. Add in all the standard safety equiptment and youve got a heavy econo car that will not come in anywhere near 9k. That being said I am actually a fan of the old Datsuns, I just dont think this is a good concept.

To play devil's advocate don't a lot of highly paid designers rehash past models for future ones?

New Mustang, camaro, challenger just to name a few.

Z

There are actually some aspects of the 350Z integrated into that 510 update at both ends. As a concept it's a lot better than what Nissan has been coming up with themselves lately :/
Make it a $25,000 car with a 2.0 turbo, a six-speed, RWD and I'd buy one.
