Saturn Astra on Sale Jan. 2, 2008
All signs pointed to Saturn’s new hatchback – an upscale Ion replacement — going on sale late in the fall of 2007. Think before Thanksgiving. Now, those longing for one of the all-new two- and four-door hatchbacks will have to wait through a few more holidays — until Jan. 2, 2008, when the car will officially go on sale nationwide.
To satiate those of you waiting anxiously to test drive an Astra, there are a number of presale drive events throughout the country. Saturn has a microsite — yes, two in one day — that gives dates and locations.

Yeah, I got sick of waiting and bought a used Mazda3 instead. Really wanted to try the Astra out first but w/ no sign of a release date until now and a worn out heap of a car, had to make the leap.
Yawn!
I thought the Astra looked pretty cool at the NY Auto show, though my company thought it was weird I was interested in a plain hatchback. I think Saturn will miss the boat on this one, even though it's a good car. I don't think it's a good value.
it's tech. a 4 year old design, been in Germany since '04 with just a mild refresh. Y not call it an '09? Does Model year go by where it's manufactured or where it's sold? Cuz the G8 is gonna b an '08 as well even tho it doesn't get sold til next year. ??!!
I have seen several Astras over the last few months motoring around the Denver area, with Opel badges and manufacturer plates.
Pretty, pretty cars.
I have seen a 3 door hatch, a wagon, and a 4-door sedan.
I would definitely take a look at them when the time comes to replace the old Honda with its high maintence costs...
at least its a replacment for the Ion. That has to be the worst car i have ever seen in my entire life.
Finally something to get the ION out of the way? But still delayed and delayed...WTH?
You know those new Saturn commercials are very nice, I wonder how they're being received by the general public?
It's a shame the UAW had to delay this car (I'm looking at YOU Gettlefinger) because if people could have bought this car for their college kids by the end of the year it might have made a good impact. (ooooh bad choice of words)
Might be a good idea to run some buzz to get them selling by graduation time.
Oh come on, the Cavalier was much worse than the Ion.
Honda's have high-maintenance costs? That's the first I've heard of that. Do you nitrous on it something? ;)
Honda's basically need an oil change every 5-10k miles and that's it.
Honda has high maintenance cost as long as you just follow along the dealers' check fluid level with a fee. Not the maintenance schedule.
Oh, did I mentioned that my Civic has about 2800 miles with 70% oil life?
I would beware of this car.I preordered an Astra and was told it would arrive in early January. Now I am told by the dealer it might arrive Feb. 1, but Saturn's call center said delivery may not be until April 1. The Saturn call center said the first batch of Astra's did not pass GM's quality standards and had to be remade. Rather than waiting for this unsure car, I had to trade my nice 1995 Saturn SL1 for a Pontiac Vibe. Sorry, Saturn but you've lost your focus on customer service.
