Honda Confirms Two New Hybrids

Hondacrz270

Man, things are crazy in Tokyo today: During the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show Honda dropped news that it will indeed produce two new hybrid cars. One will be a Prius-fighting family car, while the other will be based on the CR-Z concept we’ve been drooling over the past few days.

Honda will also bring a street-ready version of its FCX hydrogen fuel cell car to the L.A. Auto Show next month. Both hybrids will hit streets in 2009.

We were hoping to see them — especially the CR-Z — sooner than that.

So, the Prius fighter needs to be bigger than the Civic Hybrid, while the Civic Hybrid is already dipping into the Prius's price range?

What is going on with Honda?

If this is out in 2009 they could easily stop making a hybrid civic and go for these two only at that time. In the gap the Civic Hybrid is a pretty darn good hybrid car.

as a honda owner and most likely a honda guy for life, i must say i think they are going to have to hit a grand slam to compete with the prius. The civic hybrid is good, but dont compete well with the prius, while the accord hybird was a joke. I think there would be demand for the insight. But honda does MANY THINGS well and i would not be suprised if they get the last laugh. I never thought honda would have such a nice truck at least to start, and it is a great truck, just not advertised enough.

i meant to say that the insight could be brought back, (with some changes of course). That cr-z concept could be a boom for honda if done right. I guess the civic hybrid is on life support, if not dead after 2009 already. Honda does need to be careful though to avoid the problems toyota has with its new and redesigned models.

Dear Honda,

Please put me on your CR-Z wanted list! My beloved CR-X is gone. I totally understand why you wouldn't have named the car CR-Y so, please, put a CR-Z in my driveway!

We were a Ford family up until my wife's trans stop working at 41,000 miles on her Escape. According to Ford it's three months out of warranty so we will have to pay $2,500 for them to fix it. We fixed it alright, we traded it in for a Honda Pilot (wanted a more size too) and have never looked back. In fact, I just dumped my F-150 for a Honda Ridgeline. Took some time to get used too, however I now love the thing and wouldn't drive anything else. It tows, hauls, and is oh so comfortable and rock solid reliable. Not only do we love our Honda dealer (because we never see them), but Honda sure knows how to make autos. I can't imagine buying any other brand.

Jordan,

Loving my Ridgeline as well. Unloaded my Ford on it as well. Wonder why I waited so long.

Well, failing to offer the Honda Civic Hybrid in RED won't help! Red! I want RED! So, it'll have to be a red prius instead of a beautiful Honda Civic Coupe with a spoiler... the very thought of getting that in a hybrid (and red) makes my heart beat faster. It won't be as pretty but I'll get the miles, plug it in and... it will be RED!
