Honda CR-Z Concept: Honda's Next Hybrid?
- Looks like: A sports car meets a beluga whale
- Defining characteristics: Bulbous nose, hybrid powertrain
- Ridiculous features: Mesh interior materials may look good in a concept, but they won’t meet any safety or comfort standards in the real world
- Chance of being mass-produced: Not only could this be Honda’s next mass-production hybrid, it could be the replacement for the once popular CR-X
Honda is using the Tokyo Motor Show later this month to debut mainstream cars like the next-generation Fit as well as this concept, the CR-Z. Honda has been hinting that its next hybrid will be a sporty car that will be the most affordable, efficient hybrid to date. The CR-Z concept is the most concrete evidence we’ve seen from Honda that it actually has plans to roll out that dream hybrid.
There isn’t a ton of information on the concept besides the fact that it uses Honda’s hybrid powertrain, features LED headlights and, of course, huge 19-inch wheels. We wouldn’t expect many of the fancy features to make it to production, but the exterior design could be very similar to what we see on the road. This concept is much more realistic than others we’ve seen, like the Remix concept and the poorly named Small Hybrid Sports concept. More photos below.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Seems like they are heading the right direction. Except the styling needs some work.

It needs to have 4 doors to truly take on the Prius, maybe the Hydrogen one coming out will.

Ken
No one says they are using this to tackle the Prius, right?

Shaped alot like the new Eclipse from the side.

Like I said the rumors are that Honda is developing a lower cost and more efficient hybrid than what is on the market and that it will be smaller than their current hybrids. Who knows if this is it or if it will just be the new fit etc.
But I agree this isn't to take on the Prius, but if it's close in price I can see it stealing buyers of things like the Eclipse, Scion tC etc.

If it only has an automatic transmission then it isn't a real car.

I love the look of the prototype...but if the production version is a gutless "wimp car" then I probably wouldn't buy one.
I think the car needs around 250 combined HP and zero to sixty times under 6 seconds.
Absolutely great looking concept...now if Honda will just build it!!!

250hp FF? Good luck launching it from 0-60 in under 6 seconds.
Honda is not making FR too often.

If it even comes close to the Cr-x, it will be a hit.
