BMW Confirms CS Production Plans

Bmwcsconcept500

Remember that wild-looking four-door coupe BMW unveiled at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show? If you don’t, there’s a picture right here and a gallery here. Anyway, at the Tokyo Motor Show that’s going on this week, BMW executives confirmed that the company will indeed build the sloping sedan.

How emphatically did they confirm production plans? “This vehicle is only a concept study, but we have already decided that we will definitely build a four-door Gran Turismo, modeled on this concept,” said BMW board member Stefan Krause.

We pretty much expected the CS to be built, but it’s always nice to know it is officially in development.

lets see an 8 or more speed auto in it and it will be an awesome car

PS

Although I doubt they will, I hope they make the production model identical to the concept, it's so futuristic looking.

So pretty.

Does anybody have any guesses on pricing? I would think that while Mercedes prices the CLS in between the E and S class sedans, BMW doesn't really have much room in between the 5 and 7 series sedans in terms of pricing. Most 5 series cost between 50k and 70k while the 7 series starts at 75k. I think that since the S Class starts at 86k with plenty of options to tack on, the CLS doesn't cannabilize sales. They should make this more upscale than the 7 series and compete it more with the new porsche panamera and maserati quattroporte with a base price in the 90's. Also, I believe they plan on using the next generation 7 series platform to underpin this car while the CLS uses the E Class underpinnings so this would also lead me to believe a much higher price than the CLS. GO BMW for building a great product and proving that when you build a superior product your company will be extremely profitable. GM, Ford please pay attention to this company and many others out there.

looks gorgeous, but Aston Martin IMHO manages to do more; Vantage, for example, looks elegant while taking an aggressive stance. this guy is all business and a little too rough. like chugging a latte and getting a great zing without really taking more time to enjoy the finer aspects of the drink. something that can eat up some serious Autobahn. belongs on a track.

as for pricing this will be the top of the BMW lineup. So we'd guess over $100,000 to start.
