Cars.com Reviews the 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
Mike Hanley delivers his review of Chevrolet's latest heavy-duty truck. The Silverado 2500HD can help those out there with a boat, horse trailer, RV or whatever else weighs 13,000 pounds. Towing is probably the most common reason for buying a heavy-duty truck like this, but Mike also takes the 2500HD on as a daily driver. How is it piloting a 20-foot-long truck? Uh oh, you said "daily driver" and "truck" in the same sentence. Here we go.
All we need now is the "save the ________" group to rush over here and complain now about trucks. It is sad because they don't realize that there are some people out there who need trucks.
It is also, and even more "sadder," that there are still MANY people who doesn't understand the concept of not using a truck as a daily driver or commute :(
The complains that I, and many, have believed in are that
(1) there are way more people who doesn't need truck as a daily driver, but use them anyways;
(2) there are many who believes that they need to use/buy a truck to tow boats or recreational items, and as a result, use the truck as a daily driver ('coz it's there!), when all they need is a rental.
(3) With the huge hp and large engine displacement - yes, that's more powerful and pull stuff faster, but pulling slower (smaller engines) = doing your part in saving the environment! Why can't that be a compromise, but instead we go for more and more power!

Trucks like these belong to people in the construction and mining industries and probably some marine application and for ranchers, and the other applications i dont know or didnt mention. Not people who buy them to just have a big truck and use it for a grocery getter.

Yeah, the Tundra owners. I have never seen one in a construction site, but on week end in parks.
Ranches, Farms, Construction, Mining, Marinetime, recreation, Emergency rescue, and SOME contract firms. Trucks are perfect for all of these taskes. It would be impractical to RENT trucks or vans as you have sometime's suggested everytime one of those jobs need to be done.
In fact some of those jobs need the trucks to be there around the clock. Imagine a contract firm having to go out and rent a van every time they need to be on the job. The prices for their service would go through the roof.
So now think of all those things that need trucks for daily use all around the country somehow are out weighed buy the soccermoms who have them?
Almost the entire middle of the US is farms and ranches. Almost every town has a rescue department of some sort. All the construction going on right now in this country and all the contract workers in on those jobs. Groups of miners or steel workers who use them to get around the job. And lets not forget the familes who can afford a boat or a trailer.
As an experiment I'd like you to use a small truck and tow something that weighes twice it. You think that these small trucks or even 4cly vans can do as much as a high hp large displacement engine can you clearly have never towed in your life.

But heck small 4cly trucks can do the same as large ones can according to this guy.
these cars are good since tin some cases they replace actual trucks that get worse mpg and peopel need a special license.
I own a car (2000 Impala) and a truck (97 F150 with the smaller 4.6 V8). I use the truck when hauling large cargo/working and my car as a daily driver/smaller cargo. I don't need a super mega hyper heavy duty to carry stuff in the bed or even trailer a car (as I'm sure most reasonable people don't). I'm scratching my head as to why the h@ll would you use a heavy duty as a daily driver?!? Seems a little gluttonous to me.
Living in north Texas I do see alot of HD trucks around town and at the local Walmart parking lot. Some of these ranchers and farmers can only afford one car or truck and they need the one that can get the job done. Yeah it doesn't make sense for the average person to use these mamoths to drive to and from work, and I see that most people that make long commutes don't. People have to remember that a small gas saving car just isn't practical to everyone. Anyways back to the truck at hand, if it's anything like the 1500 Silverado it's should be a nice truck.
By burning that amount of gas every year, they can get a moped around town...

Wide, big, and all American. (actually, some are made in Mexico I hear...Oh well, I tried)
The "Big 3" must retool to build smaller cars, otherwise they will continue to lose market share to the imports, thus eliminating jobs.
