Family of GM Electric Cars on the Way

Pushingvolt

General Electric Motors isn’t stopping at the highly hyped Volt concept as its lone plug-in electric vehicle. In Frankfurt this week the company discussed plans for a range of vehicles using the same technology found in the Volt, including some popular front-wheel-drive models. We’d consider the Chevy Malibu one of those.

Because there still needs to be research and development of the batteries needed for the Volt and other cars like it, we won’t clear out our review schedule right away.

Did it have to be pushed onto the show floor?

this image was from the hydrogen version of the concept shown in China earlier this year not the gas electric one from Detroit. And it was pushed on yes.

Just seems that if you want to impress people with the new technology - you should show that you can actually "drive" it.

Well that's the whole story about the Volt, none of it has been tested yet. GM is just getting working prototypes rolling for tests now, 8 months after it debuted and it won't be available to the press to test as a prototype for another year.
GM never said otherwise it's just kind of funny how people think a concept car is supposed to be ready to roll off the line. They have a LONG way to go still.

In all fairness, most cars are "pushed" at auto shows anyway.

Something about filling up a hall full of people with fumes.

This cracks me up. They've already had a working production model: the EV1. What needs to be researched or developed?!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but the EV1 ran on lead-acid batteries. The Volt and other next-gen electric vehicles run on more complicated lithium-ion batteries.

oh,my god!

Actually most of the cars are driven in long before the public gets there. Even the concepts like the Camaro concept and Ford Interceptor had working engines and they drove in.

I can understand pushing cars on stage because you don't want the fumes. This car doesn't have any. If you want to show off "cutting edge" technology and the future of automobiles, wouldn't it be more impressive to the media to "drive" the car on stage? I just thought the picture was kind of ironic.
