Entire VW Lineup to Go Hybrid

2007vwjetta270

Over in Germany, the higher-ups at Volkswagen are discussing hybrids. The latest word is that the company will not only pursue its current diesel offerings worldwide but also add hybrid power plants to every model in its lineup. Of course, there’s no timetable for when this will happen, and the first VW model to get a hybrid powertrain — the Touareg SUV — hasn’t gotten a release date yet. So maybe we’ll file this away under the “wishful thinking” category of the blog. Oh wait, we don’t have one of those. Regardless, VW always seemed like the right brand to go hybrid, and we wonder why a hybrid Jetta or Rabbit hasn’t already gone on sale.

very interesting. it would be very beneficial for VW if they were to offer a hybrid and diesel version of all of their models. Hybrid Rabbits and Jettas, and perhaps even the diesel versions, would sell pretty well here, especially if they can achive 30 or more MPG. the Touareg2 hybrid is much like the Cayenne hybrid, which is supposed to get over 20 mpg in the city.

V Dub should do a diesel powered hybrid, that'll get me to really consider one. Especially if it's an SUV.

Oh yea, VW should try raising the cap on the mileage war, and release a hybrid diesel, although this is going to be significantly expensive than either a hybrid or diesel, if the car is reliable enough to a solid investment for many, many years, people might spend all that extra money to have a high-mileage car that can last them for decades... but sigh... knowing VW, that's all just a dream.

Excellent, Chrysler has just created a Hybrid division, now Volkswagen is getting there.

Certainly $80 oil price is making everyone nervous.

Diesel Hybrids can go to Taxis where they drive lot of miles and can recover the extra cost.

Ideally they should start with Golf, Rabbit, Jetta and in that order. Selling bigger vehicles like Tourag may be getting more difficult.

Anyway, in December, we will know how well the Tahoe/Yukon 2-Mode Hybrids sell.

what they should really do is bring the polo/cross polo over here and offer it in hybrid, diesel, and hybrid diesel versions only, totally skipping gasoline powere models only. considering exchange rates from Euros to US $$, the regualr gas version would probably start somewhere around 15K for the automatic transmission. with a hybrid and diesel package, it will probably be around 17K if they price it right, and then at least 20K for a diesel hybrid.

those CrossPolos are pretty cool. they would be pretty practical cars, especially in the city.
