Cadillac DTS and STS to be Axed
Automotive News has confirmed with high-level Cadillac executives that the current DTS and STS will eventually be axed in favor of a single up-level luxury sedan that could go by either moniker or a new name entirely. In 2007, the DTS was the better seller, but the STS recently went through a refreshing that added a sharp new exterior. Cadillac executives gave no time frame for when the changes would occur, but we’d expect it’s still a few years off.
Cadillac’s lineup could angle smaller, with possible future models including both an entry-level sedan slated below the CTS and a small SUV slated below the SRX and Escalade. There’s also a reference to a higher-priced flagship sedan in the Automotive News interview.

This is what happens when your designs suck. The only Caddy with any class right now is the CTS for 08', and even it does not look like something cutting edge.
Tom, do u live under a rock?
Interesting, because the DTS and the STS had two different missions.
(and I'm using the old names for clarity)
The Seville was supposed to be a "big brother" CTS, but it never quite seemed to be that much more special.
The Deville was the last of the FWD land boat Caddys.
So now one car is going to cover both bases?
Seems like a stretch.
Much as I'd like another "Super caddy" a DTS replacement seems more necesary. Because if you've got to have the most badass Cadillac, you'd get the CTS-V (or the rumored XLR replacement)
I think Cadillac should combine the STS & DTS, and call the new vehicle the "STD."
STD!!! STD!!! STD!!!
Sorry, Toyota already owns STD.
(It was a package in the 80's. Yes, you could own a Toyota Tercel STD)
Forget STD, STS, BS, AS,... Cadillac needs to bring the Deville name back with a dedicated rear drive luxury platform like Lexus' LS, BMW 7-series, and Mercedes S-Class. Deville has always been the most popular model for them and people (young and old) will buy them if its priced less than $70K and it truly competes with top dogs(ex. Escalade). GM was in the luxury game long before any of the other competition so I know they have the resources for this. As for the STS, drop it. It should have been the "CTS" from the beginning. The old CTS looked like the "concept" car and the STS looked to be the production car. Cadillac is correct in bringing something smaller to the market.
I agree that Cadillac would be crazy to replace the STS and DTS with a single product. These two models cannot be merged into one because they serve very different segments of the luxury car market, with the STS positioned as a sporty grand tourer and the DTS positioned as a cushy full-sized sedan. Without both products, Cadillac would no longer be a full-line luxury car producer, and would lack products that compete directly with the BMW -5 and -7 series, the Mercedes E and S classes, and the Audi A6 and A8. It's a sad commentary on the state of the American automobile industry that Audi can field something like 20 lines of luxury cars, with a new product introduced every other week, while Cadillac cannot maintain even three lines. I hope that Cadillac reconsiders its decision.
Bring back the Eldorado!!
Cadillac should bring back the El Dorado and use it to compete against the Audi A5, BMW 6 series, Infiniti G37, and Mercedes-Benz CLK.
Dave, is Cadillac bringing over the BLS as an entry level sedan. Thanks.
looking for set tires 225 70-75 15 withe 2- 2 2/5 wall new or use. thanks. Edward
Oh yeah because a car named STD would have a lot of sellers. Despite the fact that it means sexually transmitted disease.
Edward needs a return address. ;)
T is so CLEVER!
Remember when Ford axed the "500" name and brought back the Tarus nameplate because people weren't buying vehicles due to "name recognition"? Sounds like Caddy is doing something similar.
The old Cadillac nameplates sold well without using the "German" way of things (E500, 550i, A8). It was the "American" way of being creative. Also, consumers recoginized the nameplate as well as the brand before the collective switch to alpha-numeric naming. I say go back to Deville and Seville for the CTS. The Escalade still has a name it sells more of those than the cars...
