Reader Review of the Week: 2007 Nissan Sentra

Consreviews_2_1

The new Nissan Sentra has flown under the radar since its redesign this year. Sure, we’ve reviewed it and tested it on a number of occasions, but for some reason it’s still rare to see one on the street. We’re not sure what’s keeping people from buying one, but “Too Dang Hot” from Phoenix, Ariz., lays out why it was the right choice for him, or her. We liked the user review because some significant negatives are addressed along with the usual praise. To submit your own car review go here.

“I bought the car new and did a lot of research and comparisons online before committing to the Sentra. I love that Nissan remodeled it for 2007. I've been driving a SUV for the last couple years or so and was surprised that I didn't feel that low in the Sentra.

“PROS: Roomy for front and rear passengers, steering-wheel controls are easy & convenient, CD/radio console is very intelligent and I love the feature of having a "trip monitor" — it keeps track of average miles driven, mpg, miles until empty tank and time driven during "trip," which I reset when I fill up the tank. The automatic CVT is fantastic and such a pleasure to have. No shifting jerk and smooth acceleration.

CONS: Even though I love the car, there are a couple things that bug me a little. The side mirrors are so small and weird shaped that I really don't have use for them. I can't really see anything and usually turn my head to see if it’s safe to change lanes or if cars are next to me. Second, the side mirror auto controls on the driver door are too far up. I have to lean forward to reach them and keep having to lean forward and back to see if I adjusted the mirrors correctly. The engine when accelerating a little hard is a little louder than expected, but not a real problem.

OVERALL: Buy this car. You get more convenience and horsepower than you would with a Toyota Corolla. Unless you really need your drinks cooled, the Caliber can't compare. Plus it has that funky hatchback look.”

Well, I have to say that it is not too fair to compare it with the Corolla, since this is a freshly redesigned model, while the Corolla is ready to get one.

Probably the reason they haven't blown up in sales yet is that there are so many good deals on Altimas lately.

still cant compare to a mazda3. The new sentra looks like a box, i like the old design better

Not a huge fan of the lines. The slope from back to front, which is fine, but when you get to the hood you jump up 4 inches. The back pillar styling bothers me too(I know it was done for headroom in the rear seats). First thing I'd do is get an aftermarket grill on that thing...that's one carryover from the last gen that should've been nixed.

Test drove the Sentra just for fun. The exterior style is unique, yet too boxy. What turned me off about the Sentra is the CVT transmission. Not only did the CVT make constant whine sound it also felt very jumpy when accelerating and de-accelerating the Sentra on freeways. This is one transmission that would get on my nerves during long road trips. When I told the sales person (a former Honda sales person) I felt the Honda Civic seemed like a better car, he agreed. Enough said.

I have had my Nissan Sentra sine 2007. At first I really liked it, but I rushed into it because I was in desperate need for a car. It was affordable and cute, I only paid 16,000 for it.
