Labor Day Gas Prices: Down?

Talk around the water cooler sure hasn’t been about high gas prices lately. Prices at the pump have steadily fallen since Memorial Day and now reside at $2.74 nationally. That’s actually a full 12 cents less than the same time last year. Does this mean people are going to be back on the roads en masse this year? Will compact car sales decline as rapidly as they rose? Or are we just on a roller coaster that makes it hard for us to predict where prices will be next month or next year? We’re surprised there aren’t more stories about the decreasing prices this summer after the record highs. What do you think?

Hopefully folks will have a longer memory than that ( though I don't put too much stock in that hope ). I just bought a Hybrid Civic last week, in spite of the dropping gas prices. They're definitely going back up - it's just a matter of when, and how high.

$2.74?
I hope I can see it anywhere around my town.
The lowest I saw today was $2.85.
(Lucky me, got a coupon good for 50 cents off per gallon up to 10 gallons at a particular gas station.)

WOW! ONLY $2.74! SOOOOOOO CHEAP! Man, with gas ONLY $2.74, I think I'll buy a new H1, or two or three!

It's terrible that $2.74 feels low. Remeber gas prices just a few years ago?

J

Dan,
I remember seeing 98 cents per gallon a few years ago.

Infosaur

I saw gas for $2.51 this morning,,,

In other news, the weather channel reported there was a winter storm warning in Hades.

go figure.

Jim

Even if gas prices went back to $1 per gallon, it would behoove us to continue to conserve fuel by driving the most efficient vehicle we could and spread the fewest greenhouse gasses possible. It's not all about saving money.
