Video: 2008 Cadillac STS Technology

Kelsey Mays recently reviewed the new 2008 Cadillac STS and came away impressed not only by its road manners, but by its use of new technology. In the video above, he tackles the car’s lane departure warning system and the blind-spot warning system, similar to one on the Volvo S80. Check it out and tell us if you like the idea of these new safety devices.

I love the fact the lane departure makes you look down when you should be looking up. Why would I want to look at the console for an alert when I should be looking at the road? What happened to HEADS UP displays???

I wish they'd put this tech on commercial trucks.

I agree, the instrument light isn't much help, but the system also sounds a couple beeps when you're approaching a lane marking. The beeps come from the left or right speakers depending on which side you're drifting.

The problem with the lane departure warning is that STS drivers have a tendency to drive for many miles with their turn signals on. I assume that deactivates the warning.

The lane departure does not seem to valuable to me, I guess something I don't feel I ever really do. The blind spot warning is a great feature I think. Anything that helps you better appreciate what you did not see in your side mirror has to be a good thing. For me I find on dark rainy nights it is harder to judge what is mind my blind spot with all the reflections of lights in the water. Hopefully feature like this would make it easier to tell.

As a side note I believe this site has a link to cartalk.com and the guys their say they have a way of setting your mirrors so you will not end up with any blind spot on any vehicle so maybe features like this are not much needed.
