Why Parking Sensors are Necessary

Clkcrashsmall

When I first tested a car with parking sensors, I thought they were a great way to allow someone to inch into a perfect parking space. You could rely on the sensors to warn you before you scratched another car or an object out of view. Obviously, the driver of this previous-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK could’ve used a sensor to tell them they were in Drive rather than Reverse.

Cars.com’s Matt Raskin passed this scene off Lake Shore Drive in Chicago over the weekend and captured it on his iPhone. The second we saw it, we knew we just had to share. Click on the image for a larger view.

Talking about great engineering, there is no damage whatsoever to the cabin. Whoever was driving must have been high!!

And to step on the gas right after shifting into Reverse?
That's some genius.

iphone. you guys can afford them?

This looks more like a case for an incompetent driver sensor than a parking sensor. Still, no doubt they'll find plenty of lawyers willing to sue MB for making an unsafe car!

J: if you'd actually look at this picture you'd see that it did not reverse through the wall!

Graham,
I did see that.
If you've been following along the article, you would have understand that I was trying to point out according to the article, the driver shifted into Drive instead of reverse, and stepping on the gas right after shifting into reverse is a big mistake.

Here's an idea? How about building better walls?

No rebar?

That's an expensive accident!
