Ch-Ch-Changes: Mazdaspeed6, Mazda6 Wagon Dropped for 2008
Mazda’s high-performance sedan, the Mazdaspeed6, will not continue as a 2008 model. The wagon version of the Mazda6 is another casualty of Mazda’s thinning 2008 lineup. Both were popular among a small niche of fans but didn’t find a wide audience. Mazda is also trimming the current Mazda6 lineup because the model will be significantly redesigned for 2009.
The 2008 Mazda6 sedan and hatchback will get a tire pressure monitoring system standard for 2008, but little else has changed. A Bose stereo system is standard in the Touring trim level, 17-inch wheels are standard on the i Sport trim and there’s a standard alarm system on the Sport VE and Touring trims.
The 2008s will start arriving at dealers later this year. Currently, 2007 Mazdaspeed6 — a Cars.com Best Bet — and Mazda6 sedans, hatchbacks and wagons have a $1,750 cash-back offer or low-financing available through Sept. 4.

I thought it would stand a fight against the B4. How come it died in just 2 years?
It is said that they didn't market it sucessfully.
They could have compared the Mazdaspeed6 to the Lexus IS, Infiniti G35, Audi A4, and cars like that.

Too bad. I just got a sweet deal on a 2006 Sportwagon with only 6K on the odometer. Great alternative to midsize suv's I was considering with better mileage. Can't beat the zoom-zoom with flexability. I find myself looking back to remind myself it is a wagon!

The Mazda6 wagon's got too-much in-house competition, Mazda5, Tribute, CX-7, CX-9. Little surprise, it got the ax.
I have the Mazda5, which is cheaper and holds my 3 car seats easily.

Its sad that the only lower $20's compact - midsize wagons that were good handlers were dropped. The Mazda 6 wagon RIP and the Subaru Legacy wagon RIP :(

As a Mazda dealer I can say that Mazda is not killing the Speed 6 for lack of promotion rather to preserve the integrity of the Speed concept.
In 1990 there was an AWD Protege offered for a short run, the Mazdaspeed Protege for one year in 2003, the Mazdaspeed Miata for one year in 2004 and now three years (technically 2005-2007) of Mazdaspeed 6 and more than likely one more year of Mazdaspeed 3.
Mazda does this on purpose, just as they ended the run of the RX-7, limited the number of RHT Miatas for 2007 and kept the numbers low on the Millenia.
They have their staples like the 3 and the 6 which will remain for quite some time but the impression that I get is Mazda is not interested in offering a car so long that the public gets tired of seeing it and the resale values plummet or making the car practically invisible in the marketplace. Read: Mustang, Camaro, etc. (No offense to those cars, they just have no appeal to many because they are so common.)

I have an early 2006 mazdaspeed6. I have had porsches, corvettes, mercs, volvos, saabs, ^ ford taurus sho's etc. This is the best performance/handling/cost package I have ever seen. It runs with everything and looks so regular. wrx sti, evo mustang no problem. I will need to replace it in March. What do I do. Oh, Not one complaint or problem.

I bought a left over 06 Mazda6 GT Sport in 2007 with only 750 kilometers on it full warrenty and I went to the dealer ship about 2 weeks ago inquiring on a 08 Mazdaspeed 6 on a trade in for my 6 and he went to find out the payment difference for me and came back with upsetting news, and told me that mazda did not make a Mazdaspeed 6 this year and tried to sell me a CX-7...lol what a character. Ill be waiting for the Speed6 to arrive in the future and if it dont Ill be one unsatisfied customer, but dont get me wrong I Love my Mazda 6.
