Time to Top Off: Gas Back Under $3

Yesterday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell below $3 for the first time since May 3. Just like the rapid rise of gas prices before the Memorial Day holiday, the slide has been just as dramatic, falling 24 cents in less than a month’s time to its current $2.98 per gallon as of today, according to AAA.

The fall comes with a dip in oil rates that is much-needed, given U.S. refineries are running at below-normal capacity. One gas station owner said even during the recent spikes he didn’t see a significant drop in customers. Perhaps $3 gasoline is becoming the new norm.
