Porsche Says Nein to Detroit Auto Show

Porsche sold 290 cars in Michigan last year, compared to 9,000 in California. That vast divide is the primary reason behind the German sports car company withdrawing from the 2008 Detroit auto show. The company says it will continue to host displays at shows in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Toronto and other cities, but that it is scaling back in markets where customers are sparse.
To us, this seems like a direct reaction to the Los Angeles Auto Show’s new schedule; it now takes place in late November, roughly six weeks before Detroit. Porsche doesn’t reveal new models in the U.S. anyway, it debuts them at European shows like Frankfurt, Geneva or Paris; we simply get the cars’ North American debuts at shows like L.A. The German automaker probably feels that it will have more impact on the West Coast, and we can’t argue. Perhaps other specialty automakers like Ferrari and Rolls-Royce will follow suit.

All those years of Michiganders scoffing at imports finally comes back to bite them on the behind.
Though it's not like Porsche takes sales away from the Detroit companies.
LM, I believe it has more to do with the horrible economy we have here in Michigan than consumer choices of domestic or foreign.
It is a silly reason. They go to a lot of AutoShows in Europe in countries where they don't sell a lot of cars.
Their loss.
USA is the largest market of any cars ...so why Porsche is not marketing their new design in USA market its really a enigma..........?
