There aren’t a lot of options in the 30-plus-mpg/under-$30,000 hybrid SUV market. Actually, just the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner Hybrid fit the bill. Kelsey Mays put a front-wheel-drive Mariner through its green paces and came away with mixed feelings. Where's the stability control? I thought Ford promised it in all their trucks and SUVs by now.

AdvanceTrac stability control is standard across all non-hybrid Escapes and Mariners. Ford says it will arrive on the hybrids for 2009. Unfortunatley, that doesn't make the lack of stability control on the '08 hybrids any less acceptable. Just about every competitor lists the feature as standard.
