Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra Get Incentives

Don’t get overly excited, but General Motors is offering minimal incentives on certain trim levels of the all-new 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra “in response to competitive incentive offerings in the marketplace.” That’s a GM spokesman basically saying: If the Toyota Tundra has incentives, we’ll match ‘em.
Starting Friday and running through July 9, there will be between $1,250 and $1,500 cash back or 0% financing for 36 months on the two trucks. Reduced-rate financing for 60 months will also be offered. We’re not sure if the deal will actually change anyone’s mind about buying either a GM truck or a Toyota truck, but at least it will make the GM buyer feel like they’re not losing out to their Tundra-driving neighbors.

Id pay extra for the GM truck than the toyota 'truck'
If you buy one, you will pay extra. Extra for repairs and maintenance.... sorry, couldn't resist.
Don't jump to conclusions just yet, this vehicle is so important to GM that it has to perform!!
it'll be covered by the warranty IF anything were to go wrong (5 years 100K)...but the trucks are the most reliable in their class, so SORRY! COULDN'T RESIST!
So is GM outfitting the '08s with their 6 speed automatic? 6L80e
yes you transmission horny man
Sorry "Jenki" but these trucks should have one of the highest reliability levels in its class, just look at the Tahoe and Yukon's they are built off the same platform and have been rated as superb quality by several auto institutions so stop trying to hate so much on "The General" its trying to turn things around.
I beleive the profit margin on trucks and suvs is high enough that an incentive won't hurt profits by much. The consumer wins in this case. A lower priced, good quality vehicle... What's wrong with that? Smart move General!
Troy,
We both agree on the same subject, but don't repeat what was said.
Thanks!
Virginia
so in theory both the undra and the silverado/sierra should depreciate at the same rate just on this for now?
no, actually sierra/silverado have best in class residual value, not toyota or ford or dodge. THANKS
Oh man, why oh why does this have to be another Domestics VS Imports?
(Right now, I see domestics fans more on this blog.)
Just 'coz you BELIEVE that the domestics are better...who cares? What you think won't affect the sales of import trucks! Don't you guys get it? If it does, you wouldn't have seen report (yesterday or today) stating that the Toyota truck sales have increased, whereas both GM/Ford/Dodge truck sales have decreased by the same percentage. If the domestics trucks are doing really good and as superior as you've said, then you should ask yourself why GM's offering incentives to sell them...You don't see incentivs on the Corvette, do you?
Point: there's no need for these types of argument. Consumer will buy what they want! If you think that what you are doing is "working," and will be able to convince someone to buy domestics, then by the same token, an import truck buyer can simply say "TOYOTA's THE BEST," and all of you will just flock to the Toyota dealerships and buy Toyota trucks!
BTW, to the 1st unknown commentor - you will be the 1st person I know on this planet that are willing to pay more than what the car company/dealer has asked you to, even though they have already given you a discount and told you that you don't have to pay as much.
Virginia-
Why so much hatred towards Troy?
On second thought, why do you post at all? At least Troy is posting on topic, all you do is come here to attack another poster. You are not contributing.
Dan,
Please mind your own business.
Thanks,
Virigina
Dan,
It's no use. Thank you for sticking up for me though.
Virginia,
I see you've kept your promise. I'm starting to like you.
Back on topic... Will we see an extension to the incentives like we did the President's Day (err, weeks) sale? If I were in the market for a truck, I'd consider the Silverado.
Troy
"You don't see incentives on the Corvette, do you?"
Low volume vehicles typically don't have incentives.

Why is Toyota offering such steep incentives on the Tundra then? $2,000 cash-back, plus another $1,000 for a Toyota trade-in. The fact that the Tundra's year over-year-sales are up over the previous uncompetitive model proves nothing either. It's pretty clear the Tundra is not performing as well as Toyota had hoped, and they are going to have to sell in excess of 20,000 Tundras every remaining month of this year to meet their 200,000 first year sales goal for the new model, which if the current trend is any indication, I just don't see happening.
J.N.,
Did I talk 'bou the Tundra in my post? I didn't see it myself!
Just 'coz you are saying 'bou the rebates in Tundra, doesn't help in disproving my point - if you've a well enough vehicle, that's just released to the market at a reasonable price, then it should sell well, and with the sale volume (compare to the # of vehicles made), there's no need for rebate (except for year end clearance). That's a simple Economy 101 for ya...
Saying bady things 'bou the Tundra just further prove that you've agreed with me, because you've used my point to prove yours, so my point must be correct - to you, thus, the GM trucks not doing well.
Just a very simple logic trick...and someone did fall into it :)

What I am trying to figure out is how you can determine resale on a vehicle 3,4,5 yrs down the road. If something comes out and there is a major recall or safety issue in 3 yrs - who is going to want to buy the vehicle. Its one of those claims a dealer, import or domestic, cannot back up.
