Best Road-Trip Rides
The editors over at Kelley Blue Book are celebrating the busiest road trip weekend of the year with a list of the top cars and SUVs for a road getaway. After the editors made their picks, they opened up the virtual floodgates and let readers vote on what they’d want for cruising the highways and byways. The full list is below, but we want to hear what you’d pick. Personally, after all the road trips we’ve taken at Cars.com recently, we’d go with the Cadillac STS-V. It has the perfect blend of comfortable seats and mindblowing power. And we like that.
Kbb.com's 10 Best New Road Trip Vehicles for 2007
1. Jaguar XKR Convertible
2. BMW 3-Series Convertible
3. Chevrolet Suburban
4. Dodge Charger SRT8
5. Mercedes-Benz E320 BLUETEC(R)
6. GMC Acadia
7. Land Rover LR3
8. Ford Edge
9. MINI Cooper
10. Mazda MX-5 Miata Convertible Hardtop

Is this list for real?
A Miata? You can't even fit a cooler in it. A Mini with a suspension so hard that you will feel every single expansion joint on I-90 and especially the potholes of major cities...good luck.
A road trip car needs sufficient space (8 hours on the interstate will quickly make a Mini less fun) and comfort. In addition, it helps if it is also sporty and fun without being punishing.
A BMW 3-series or 5-series should definitely make this list (and close competitors as well)
...actually I agree with you...I'd take the STS before any of these...unless I had 6 kids

I can't believe that the Mercedes-Benz S600 didn't make this list. If a 5.5 liter V-12 isn't mind blowing power, then it's hard to say what is. There's also an excellent chance that it is the most comfortable car on the road. It has cavernous amounts of room, is whisper quiet, and has tons of safety features. What more could you want?

To John, "What more could you want?" How about not having to stop for gas every 30 minutes to feed that twin turbo V12?

The Mini and the Mazda are a joke for serious road drive. I would prefer an old Crown Vic to any of these 2.

What criteria was used to select these vehicles?
In my mind, the perfect road trip vehicle would be roomy, fuel efficient, non-fatiguing to drive, dependable and affordable. That top 10 list above should be revised.
1. Honda Odyssey
2. Toyota Sienna
3. Honda Pilot
4. Toyota Avalon
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Perhaps you need to clarify the defintion of "Roadtrip"
For some, it's a madcap romp though the hills to some distant SCCA race, So the Miata/Mini would be ideal.
For others it's a 3 day weekend to a nice spa-golf outing-wine tasting. So the Jag and Bimmer would be very nice indeed.
For some people it's taking the entire family to see their relatives and have a picnic/BBQ. So the Arcadia and Suburban would be solid choices (Suburban, especially if one is towing a boat)
Personally, I would never "buy" a 2000 T-bird. I liked the looks, but found it uncomfortable to sit in.
Nevertheless. For a 3 day weekend? I'd love to get a Rat Pack's greatest hits CD, swing out to Vegas and arive in style. That's about it.

I had to get rid of my '97 Wrangler because of having two kids and two rather larger dogs.
Now they offer a 4-door with room in the back for the dogs. Get that with the soft top and you've got yourself a go anywhere, and I mean anywhere, road trip vehicle. Now if a cushy ride is your biggest concern, you definitely don't want to look at the Jeep, no matter how much the ride has improved.

It becomes clear once you drive the new XKR why it rises to the top. Blipping the throttle in a fraction of a second, hammering it through the apex and redlining it through a straight, all with an exhaust note 'that sounds like Tom Jones gargling a nascar' and a cloud 9 interior creates a driving experience that makes you want to experience every road on the planet.
