2007 New York Auto Show: 2008 Lexus LX 570
When we heard about the new Lexus LX 570, we had some guesses on what it would be. We guessed correctly that it borrows the 5.7-liter V-8 from the new Toyota Tundra, for example. We just didn’t know what it would look like.
Now that we’ve seen it, we’re not blown away. The styling is more than subtle — perhaps “nondescript” would be the right terminology. Maybe that’s so the folks sharing the road with you won’t notice what a large luxury SUV you’re driving. That’s just a guess, and a wild one.
Regardless, people shopping for a large luxury SUV will appreciate the 381 hp and six-speed automatic transmission. It can also tow up to 8,500 pounds. The suspension is radically upgraded; it even lowers the LX 570 by an inch when it hits highway speeds in order to reduce drag. We’ll have more on the LX 570 later today on our main Cars.com auto show page, but for now, check out the photos below.

I love the front end.. but what is up with the seats that don't fold into the floor?!?
fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats would be nice, but people who buy this probably got a 2007 Tundra park in the garage anyways. nice evolutionary design, thank GOD they didn't join the BOXING design fray!! WOO!!!!!!!
come lexus where are the 'disappear into floor seats at' nice design overall. hope they will have some for the upcoming stretch RX to go after the MDX and X5!!!
And the Landcruiser name has moved further into the soccer-mom world. :( This thing looks like a big Highlander. I would think all the complaints about the 100-Series' bland styling would've registered with Toyota. Apparently that is not the case. Good job with the V8 and 6 speed, though.
I love the front, but that rear end looks weird. Kind of Touraeg-y. O well the interior is also as sharp and awesome as it should be, It looks good Lexus! not great, good.
I know it's not as big, but I'd rather have the Ford Flex or the Lincoln version. I can't describe what Toyota is doing to its suv's. First, the highlander, and now this horrible Lexus. I'm not a ford lover, chevy lover, etc. .... just a automobile lover and I'm not loving this thing.
The front end is nice (taking similar styling ques from the Lexus LS460) but the back and the apperance overall looks like it was designed to be a bigger version the Toyota RAV4. Hope the rear will be tweeked a little bit for the Landcrusier.
What concerns me is that, what would happen to the Land Cruiser when they update this LX?
I like the front, especially the headlights. But the back is too bulky and bland. :(
Will the Land Cruiser not be sold here anymore?
I'd like to see the current LC discontinued and the FJ renamed just "Land Cruiser".
Noooooooo----Toyota cannot discontinue the Land Cruiser. It's an iconic vehicle that is synonymous for off-roading. I hope Toyota keeps the classic styling of the current generation Land Cruiser. Do a evolutionary update, like the Range Rover.
wade,
If that happens, that means the 2007 Land Cruiser will cost about 50K, the 2008 will cost about 25K. WOW! What a great discount.
I don't think Toyota would ever do this to their cars and trucks.
Nice Honda Pilot, ooopss, sorry. It looks like one, for sure.
This redesign (excuse me update to an ancient platform) just assured that Cadillac will sell even more Escalades and Land Rover more Ranges. This thing is downright hideous in and out. I know Toyota has the money and resources to have done this the right way...
well I hate to break it to everyone who doubted me earlier, but I think its pretty obvious that this won't keep up with the new escalade...looks like toyota needs to learn a few things instead of trying to play catch up.
Great style and power, but it looks like a oversized 08 Highlander in many ways, especially the exterior...
Another example of cheap rebadging.
Another example of cheap rebadging.
Cris,
Where the heck you see cheap rebadging?
that is the right engine along with the right transmission.however, the back proved to be disappointing depriving this exceptional suv of its previous impressive style. the shocking back of the car would not stop me from admiring the craftsmanship of lexus engineers.
lol 1 hp more than LS460L thats very powerfull ^^
I know that Toyota will sell many of these SUVs just because they're gonna be reliable like because of the Lexus nameplate, however, I wish that Toyota had gone for a beefier front fascia and used an original design for the rear, going for a design even Lincoln would have found tacky.
I like the seats, how they fold, but it is a ver expensive rebadged Toyota, so I would buy the original Toyota.
I agree, the styling? wich one? I'm the proud owner of the classic lx 450 and I wouldn't change its styling by the one on the LX 570. Still it looks very interesting the changes in the motor, power and hp. Certainly I would like to know more or less how much it will cost. Do anyone have an idea??
It looks like they tired to make the car fit in to the American style..but they failed the sadiest part of it all it that the LX and Land crusier was mostly made for the people in the gulf and they like boxed suvs like range rover, g wagon, hummer and nissan patrol but toyota lost there touch.
tim, there is no linclon version of the Ford flex
