We’ve been writing comparisons for a while now on the main Cars.com site, and now there’s finally a place where you can check them all out in one place. Wondering what compact SUV really is the best? What’s the best luxury sedan? We take three of the best challengers in each segment and pit them against each other. Not like it'd fit in a 3-way, but somebody needs to do a comparo between the Saturn Aura and Mercury Milan. The cars are way too similar to escape notice.

Take the CAMRY out of the comparo between the fusion and optima, thats insulting the CAMRY's image. Put the sonata instead or maybe the avenger, sebring, or aura, or g6, but not the CAMRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fusion & Optima insulting to Toyota??? Who's insulting to whom? Well I suppose it could be construed as insulting to say anything negative about the bland old granny-mobiles that Toyota make, so I won't make any of the derogatory comments that racing around in my head.

Look, simple fact: Camry, Optima, Fusion, etc. are all roughly the same size, in the same price range, with similar options. Therefore whatever your views on the coolness/quality/whatever of these vehicles, it's a good comparison to make.

"granny-mobiles that Toyota makes"

Ok... I can appreciate that you don't like Toyotas. Everybody has their own taste in vehicles and you can't criticize that. You like what you like and that's not hurting anybody. But, to call Toyota cars "granny-mobiles" doesn't make a lot of sense to me. A cars worth, in my opinion, is calculated by considering many factors including the car's reliability over time, gas mileage, etc. The evidence is over-whelming: Toyotas are high-quality, highly reliable gas-economical cars. If anything, non-granny cars can be rightly criticized for not being fuel efficient. Sure, I like muscle cars. A 72 Dodge Challenger gives me goose pimples. And I probably wouldn't turn down a chance to take one for a spin either. But, I'm certainly not going to commute to work in one everyday. That's not very environmentally friendly.

Let's be fair!

Jonathan

It doesn't matter that some people think Camrys are better than other cars, the fact is that people cross shop them.

A better one might be the new Camry, Altima, and the Aura!!!!

Yup. Here are some ideas:

-->Camry/Altima/Aura

-->Avenger/Fusion/Galant

And when the time comes:

-->the 335, G35, IS350, and the new C-class.

I never in the life of me can figure Americans out. Anything that even has the slighteset hint of being made by the Americna automobile companies don't stand a chance.
The Toyota's have a bland style, but everyone praises it. i jsut don't understand. I have a 1994 Mercury Marquis with over 200,000, basically trouble free miles and it is still running strong. It has room for six and carry their luggage. It gets 25 miles a gallon on the road. Not bad for a V 8. Just think all you people who bash anything connected with America, you could have had a V 8.

There are people out there who say even the Altima isn't Camry's natural competitor. Or the Aura. Or the Accord. Or the Mercedes S-Class. Or anything other than another Camry. It's like cutting diamonds; only a Camry can do a comparo with another Camry.

Are they REALLY that incompatible?

Anyway, I came up with a third: Aura, Milan and Avenger (the nicer of the DCX twins). You could call it "Pretenders to the Throne". :)

I would like to see a comparo of some of the new 7-passenger CUVs, like the Hyundai Veracruz, Mazda CX-9, GMC Acadia, and Toyota Highlander.

Adam,
We're working on that one!
