Toyota Offering $1,500 Rebate on All-New Tundra

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Toyota dealers are offering as much as $1,500 cash back on the base model of the all-new Tundra full-size pickup throughout the month. Before “the sky is falling” comments start flooding in, let us say that the base model, single-cab truck is not the most popular Tundra. Dealers have reported the more-expensive double cabs are selling well. Toyota representatives did tell the Journal that the company is concerned it may miss its initial sales goal of 200,000 for the Tundra this year.
The fine print: Toyota dealers in the Southeast — Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina — are offering the full $1,500 cash back. Other regional stores are offering anywhere from $250 - $1,000.

if you cant sell it rebate it
Well its a start of rebates, we see if the rebates increase in time. I'm not a trunk buyer but wonder if the heavily rebated previous generation of Tundra will make this generation sell slow.
Other companies are offering incentives on new models as well; Ford with Edge for example. It's to generate buzz and foot traffic.
Is it a bit precarious though.
Livin in South Carolina, im surprised their offerin rebates like that. Most of the trucks i see are either Toyota, Chevrolet, or Ford. and theres gettin to be a lot of toyota trucks now.
I would say that the increasing gas prices may have a significant impact on Toyota's decision to give the rebate. Remember, these are 1XXX cc engine (i.e under 2L) anymore. We are talking 'bou V8, 6000cc engines, so mileage is definitely under 15 mpg combined! Dunno if it requires premium gas or not, but you are definitely going to pump in over $60/fill-up with gas prices over $3 for regular now here @ N. Ca.
Look @ Ford & GM, their new SUVs/Trucks sold "much lower than anticipated" when they were released new - with gas prices over $3/gallon. They sold much better in the last 2 months when gas prices gone back down to $2.50!
I think Toyota's "bigger is better" philosophy on the new Tundra has come back to haunt them. The previous Tundra and T100 were smaller than the domestics giving them better fuel economy and yet still had 8' beds for hauling. This meant the Toyota trucks had the best of both worlds. Now that they've gone gonzo full-size they may alienate traditional Toyota buyers and yet not win over domestic buyers.
I've had my Tundra for a month now and couldn't be happier. I wish I would have waited and gotten the rebate but I don't have a crystal ball. I was going buy the Ford F150 as the dealer had a better price but when I spoke with some people in my trade they all said I would be crazy as the truck is showing it's age and Ford dealers are notorious for poor service. I'm glad I got the Tundra even if I paid a little more. I still can't get over how refined it is.
That is one ugly truck!
I think high fuel prices are to blame here. I just test drove multiple makes/models of trucks and found everyone has a rebate or special financing going on. The Tundra, Silverado and Ram were all in the running. I settled on a Ridgeline becasue it fit my needs.
Don't let rebates sway your truck buying decision. Actually put your cheeks in the seat of each model. Test drive them. Other people's opinions are just that. TV advertising is just that... Consider the actual use of "your" truck IE running aroud town with a single occupant (most trucks) versus being used for actual work (not driving to the office).
A rangerxlt you got some neves to say that the all-new Toyota Tundra is one ugly truck. You need to look at that ugly ass Dodge Nitro!
