Toyota's Next Prius: Hybrid X Concept Unveiled
Most automakers start to think a little outside the box when it comes to concepts, not Toyota. The Hybrid X debuted this morning at the Geneva Motor Show and is meant to be a look at the future of Toyota hybrid vehicles. Anyone who’s seen a Prius in the past few years won’t be a bit surprised by the electric blue concept car’s open cabin with lots of glass. We’re a bit surprised Toyota didn’t announce any details about its efficiency, instead this is purely a “design” concept. The Hybrid X uses the same Hybrid Synergy Drive that powers the current Prius, but rumor has it the next generation Prius will get considerably better mileage than the current gas sipper’s 60/51 mpg city/hwy.

I love the design. Seems extremely aerodynamic - should help the fuel economy. It also seems smaller than the current Prius, especially the interior, but I think it is ok since there's now a bigger hybrid Camry. A 25% or bigger improvement in MPG would overshadow decrease in size.

it looks like a retarded clown car

I am a Prius owner and have been very happy with the car. I would love to have this as my next one.

What a disappointment! I currently own a Prius, if the next one looks like the Hybrid X - I will not buy one... The new Honda Hydrogen/Fuel Cell vehicle FCX looks A LOT better.

I own a prius and love it. This car is absolutely gorgeous. Tell Toyota to put me on the list. In black of course.

Where's the Trunk-????
Part of the whole appeal of the current Prius was it's flexible Hatchback design and the fact that you could carry stuff in it ... like a "real" car.
This new design has no damn Trunk-??
There is no space there for carying anything ( suitcases, music equipment, etc.)
Is Toyota nuts-??
They just reinvented the "Honda Insight" here and threw away one of the good things about the original Prius.
HOW DO YOU CARRY ANYTHING IN THIS CUPCAKE-???
Go back to the original HATCHBACK design!!!

that's why it's called a concept.

Its good to see all 3 of the Prius owners were able to find this blog and post their comments ;) Its just my opinion, but the Prius is one of the least appealing cars on the road. Funny though, I like the new concept.

I think its very attractive, unlike the present Prius which is ugly!

I'll take mine in silver with dark tinted windows. I love the direction that Toyota has taken.

Very futuristic just like its hybrid energy system. This is definitely a huge step beyond what the American Big 3 are attempting. Toyota should be congratulated for making this vehicle look soooooo 21st century.

My wife and I each have a Prius. We love them, but I'm not so sure about not having a trunk. I, too, think this is a mistake. The gas mileage is definitely NOT 60 mpg. Best we got on hers is about 53, and on mine is about 49 mpg. Hers was bought new, mine was 1 yr old and had been a lease/rental. The new standards may be a bit too strict for the real numbers, but then folks will feel better than I did trying to squeeze more miles out just to meet the so-called EPA stds. I wish it allowed plug in feature to enhance the gas mileage!

I think this is great for most everyone. Yes, the trunk/boot access appears limited, but for groceries its just fine. I love the esthetics of the sunroof, although living in the desert this might not be the grand option. Ultimately, I want one NOW.

Very Nice Toyota. But the most important information is not in the article, How many Miles Per Gallon Will the car get? Will it be a Plug In Hybrid?(it better be ;) and will this car have the ability to drive in "all electric mode" for city driving, at least 13 miles? By the way, I'm very happy with my 2004 Prius, but want to plug-in, want solar panels(photovoltaics), and all EV mode. Come on Toyota, people all across the nation are converting their Prius to be Plug-In capable, what are you waiting for? And don't tell me battery technology is not their yet. Pheonix Motorcars have a Ten Minute Charging battery, with warranty of 12 years or 250,000 miles. Don't get comfy just because you're number one in the world, Toyota. Love, Happy Prius Driver.

Joseph M. I'm right with you on this! If this next gen Prius has a big improvement on gas mileage over the current gen I'll will definitely look at purchasing. Love the extreme look! Come on Toyota lets really make a mark on the industry, don't let the those oil companies push you around. Put all the research you've invested into this next gen and I'll buy one!
