Lexus LX 570 Debuting at New York Auto Show

The day is not slowing down in the automotive news world. Lexus just announced it will debut a new LX 570 luxury SUV at the upcoming New York Auto Show. The third-generation LX will feature a new V-8 engine, presumably borrowed from the redesigned Tundra. In the Tundra, the 5.7-liter V-8 puts out 381 hp and 401 pounds-feet of torque while getting 14/18 mpg city/highway when equipped with four-wheel drive. There’s no doubt this model has been in development for some time, but does the industry need another large, truck-based SUV, luxury or otherwise?

We’ll find out in April.

Someone needs to check their facts for this story. How can Lexus borrow an engine from the Tundra when the same exact engine was developed and sold in the Lexus in Japan more than 8 months ago. The new and old Tundra V8's are both Lexus engines. Not that this makes much difference since Lexus is just a nameplate but the facts are the facts. And NO the world does not need another soccer Mom toting her saggy rear end to the Doc office to get more Botox injections in another truck-based SUV.

We try and make this blog focused at the American consumer. I don't think many people would know it was on sale in Japan 8 months ago. They will know its what powers the truck they see in tv commercials everyday.

I could reword it to say "the same engine that is used in the new Tundra" but it's just phrasing it wouldn't change the fact that the engine will be in both vehicles. Actually, it's not fact yet, since they haven't officially said that's the engine or not.

Kevin, what vehicle was the 5.7l offered in, in Japan?

Will the new LX 570 be the luxury version of the second generation Toyota Sequoia or a new Land Cruiser? I think the world could use more reliable big SUVs. I just hope they made them affordable with the better gas mileage.

could use reliable suv's? take a look at all of the GM SUV's...they are topping the reliability charts. Im sorry, but I have no hopes for this vehicle, as usual, they will fall short compared to my escalade. Sorry Toyota!

Sorry Dave... but Lopez, I'm sick of your racist bs. I've heard you so many other countless times. I read the news and comments to find INFORMATIVE news about the cars not so I can listen to rants about pro-american or pro-anything. You haven't driven the Lexus nor has anyone else, and you can't even give your opinion on how it will look either. Personally I felt the last one fell short in the looks dept. but Lexus has shown it can make excellent SUV's with the RX and GX and the GX is an amazing looking one. I'm not sure how it will seel but I'm curious to see if it's at all possible for it to have a hybrid option. I think that would boost sales significantly and make it more of a niche vehicle. I hope it succeeds though. And Lopez, the GX is more along the lines of competition for the Escalade, and personally, I'd take the GX over any Escalade anyday just because i wouldn't wanna look like some gangster rolling down South Street in a hopped up, over-chromed, not-to-mention over-styled Caddy.

Tom's comment was a little stereotypical and last time I checked the Escalade sells better than the Lexus.

To Randy and Tom, since you are the 2 who called the escalade ghetto and gangster, my dad has a 2004 escalade EXT and trust me at 64yo he is far from being a gangster or from the ghetto. Sure some people have their escalades loaded up and I would too, at 33yo if I could afford A. To even own a escalde and B. To load it up that way.
When are you people going to figure it out, everyone has their own style and likes you may like Toyota while others like Cadillac, deal with it people dont put others down due to their own likes and dislikes and furthermore stop using stereo types and racist crap.

As far as the new Escalade I've seen far more grey haired men driving it in Chicago than anything else. Funny how his comment did turn out that way even though he was POed at V Lopez. I agree with wade 100% but i also would like to point out the trap I put Lopez in. I mentioned the Escalade to be gangster. Why is there racism in that? It's a term used to describe someone as... A member of a gang of delinquents. according to dictionary.com. No race involved in that. I think someone needs to get their head out of the ground. And I also understand Cadillac went to their rapping and hop-hop buddies to find out how to design the next one. Which ones though? Eminem or 50 Cent. Take your pick I'm far as hell from racist.

I'm not certain lopez understands the meaning of the word "jealous" I don't know him personally or anything about him so I'm not sure how or what I could be jealous of. He may have meant envious, but I'm not that either.

V Lopez, when I said more reliable big SUVs, I never mentioned any name plates. But now that you brought it up, I was referring to the human barbeque contraptions (Ford Expedition, F150, 250, etc. -yes, I know there’re pickup trucks, and Dodge Durango). As for your Escalade being duded “Ghetto”, “Gangsta”, it may have a lot to do with the street cred the vehicle gets. It’s all over pop culture (hip hop and rap music videos, Hollywood celeb owners, etc) but in my opinion, what the Escalade does not have is class. It out “blings” almost everything on the road these days, but it just does not have the world renowned pedigree of say a “Range Rover”. Luxury SUVs like the Range Rover and Land Cruisers/Lexus LX are legendary for their true off road capabilities and reinforces it with an image of exploring exotic locations in true luxury. You’ll never see an Escalade driving through the safaris of Africa or pulling up to a luxurious ski resort with skies on the roof rack; that’s just not image of an Escalade. Escalades are about having people turn their heads to see who’s in that shiny chromed out SUV coming down the road in a major metropolitan city. FYI, I don’t sense any racism, just a bunch of biasness.

Okay time for some FACTS based on personal experience.

I used to pick up used cars for dealerships, We picked up Lexus LX470's, Toyota Tundras AND Chevy Suburbans.

We would take them to a storage lot where they would sit for a few weeks then deliver them to used car dealerships.

Here are some FACTS based on personal experince

The Lexus's usually needed to be jumped after sitting, The RX300's didn't have this problem just the LX's I don't know why.

The Tundras were horrid on gas. Under 11 mpg usually.

Chevy's started, were't too bad on gas considering their size (13-15 mpg) but yeah the interiors looked cheap.

Bah it's a moot point, I like smaller cars anyway.

To James yes Escalade's are ghetto there's where you see them the most why I say that because my home girl father has one and he lives in the ghetto and plus the most people u see them damn Escalade's with are gangster in there music videos and u see them in the black hood more then the white hood why I say that again is becaise of the type and kind of people that buys them are black older people that have money for them
