How many times can we vote?.

until your mouse wears out! seriously, you can vote as often as you'd like.
or just hit "vote" to check on the progress if you don't want to fill out all the boxes.

Eric

Dave - Wouldn't that make it a voting face-off instead of a car face-off? What's the point then?

Not sure I see what you mean Eric?
The ardent fans of those cars will vote more so theoretically its still user decided either way.

Bad Angus

Well, clearly the Crown Vic guys followed up on their threat to vote early and often.

yeah they did. wow.

lprocter

Seems this is measuring how much fans of a certain vehicle love their car, as opposed to how many people like, or bought, the car. Obviously, Crown Vic fans are crazy for their car.

Eric

Dave - I thought majority voting would have made more sense. I guess I missed something.

Eric's right. This is bs. Voting face off, good call.

Infosaur

What's with the bellyaching? Just get the Toyota fans to rally. Oh wait they aren't realy any Toyota FANS, per se, just people who buy Toyota because "they say it's a really good car, that's why I'm paying 85% sticker on an off lease three year old Camry!"

lprocter

I don't think there are many people who actually have an emotional attachment to a car like those who like the Crown Vic. Toyota owners, I would say, feel as attached to their car as they do to their toaster, or dishwasher. And that is why the Crown Vic is currently winning.

nick

This Just Proves How Ignorant People Can Be When It Comes To Their Love Of Domestics. Read The Comparison Between The Camry And Crown Vic, Itr Ridiculous How Much Better The Camry Is In Every Catagory Besides Maybe Trunk Space.

J

I don't understand why the Accord is battling the Versa, while Fusion is battling the Cobalt?

Isn't it suppose to be Accord VS Fusion, and Versa VS Cobalt?

matt

It's listed in number if sales

It's a shame that Cars.com built-up the Kicking Tires section over the past year only to pull a stupid stunt like this. I hope the Crown Vic does win as it will only confirm the previous statement that it's all about voting not the actual cars.

Thanks to Infosaur for providing the laugh of the day: "...that's why I'm paying 85% sticker on an off lease three year old Camry!"

Yeah, right after they find those WMD's in Iraq.

Chris

Wow. This is absolutely idiotic. What I see here is a lot of Ford fanboys ruining what should be a fun event.

Great going. Does anyone honestly think that a Focus is better than a Mini? Or a Crown Vic better than a Camry? It's ridiculous.

Although I can see the Fusion winning against the Cobalt.

Hey,
It's just for fun guys. Don't take it too seriously. It's like those vote for the worst people on American Idol. You get what you vote for. If the fanboys want to go nuts there's not much I can do. I'll let the people that came up with the idea know you guys don't like the voting system but its probably too late to change anything.

Scryer_360

Dave T, stop this, or whomever has control stop this, why cannot we do this again some other time?

Its clear that either the out-of-work Ford people or just a bunch of domestic car pushers are pushing up the Crown Vic. This is supposed to be a great car faceoff, not a great vote faceoff.

I realize this has been said before, but common, how are you supposed to make this a Kicking The Tires front-pager when voter sabotage is allowed?

The Toyota people probably will vote once and forget, thats about it. And this will only create cannon fodder for Ford advertisements: "In a recent cars.com survey, x number of Ford cars won by consumer choice."

Not true, it'd be more like number of clicks choice. This is not a great car faceoff, its a sham.

Ya know what, the domesic cars and especially the Crown Vic never get the respect they deserve. So it may not be much, but it sure shows how many of us really enjoy what we drive!

lprocter

Sure the CV fans are voting a ton. But I would question why Toyota fans aren't? It's not like you can only vote for the Crown Vic. If people don't want to vote a million times for the car they like, that's their problem. I would say that people who have, or have had Crown Vics like them a hell of a lot more than anyone who has a Toyota. Toyotas are toasters on wheels, the Crown Vic is a car.

Infosaur

"Thanks to Infosaur for providing the laugh of the day"

I aim to please,,, er, Mr. Nameless Poster.

Dave's right, this is for laughs. If the Vic SOMEHOW does win this thing will it really change the fact it's outsold by the Camry by a LARGE margin? In the real world the only vote that counts is dollars, but this is the intraweb! So either take it with a grain of salt or vote for the Camry untill, as Davt T. said "till your mouse breaks"

BTW who will the Crown Vic face in the 2nd round anyway?

"Toyota are toasters on wheels...the Crown Vic is a car."

I really enjoyed the time and effort that originally went into the Kicking Tires site but it's evident to me that it's not a serious site and this contest is reflective of that. If you are of the MTV crowd then you've found your temple. Congrats.

lprocter

Say, when's the voting going to start for the pickups/SUVs... I thought there'd be a new poll each day, and last I checked, voting's still open on yesterday's CV dominated poll.

yeah the focus one pisses me off a little bit I'll admit because come on, you weren't going to spend the extra $ or you woulda gotten a mini.
So that ones lame. Although reading the crownvic message board is pretty hilarious.

Also,
KickingTires is part of Cars.com
Cars.com is running the Faceoff we're just blogging about it.
I don't think one should reflect on the other as one is something that's supposed to be light and fun, while the other is a resource for car shopping info and news.

I don't really understand the negative vibes. If we wanted to do a reader award we would've done a reader award. And hey, Duke lost last night right?

lprocter

Well said, LilTom. If we wanted to compare sales and reliability, what would the point of the voting be? Crown Vicers love their cars, and so they take the time (rightly or wrongly) to spend hours casting votes.
Sports analogy: Who's louder, a quiet, but large, home crowd, or a crazy, but small, visiting crowd? the visitors in this case would be ridiculously louder, and this would trickle down to the team, hopefully helping them win. Likewise, the CV owners are crazy for their cars, and as such, the CV should win, regardless of any objective data.
This is a subjective vote, not a scientific research project. Not to mention, it's kinda fun. Good job Cars.com.

LM

Actually this whole contest is kind of lame. The real contest happens with people's wallets, and the sales numbers speak for themselves. By allowing one person to vote continuously all day, all it shows is that CV'ers don't have lives. Maybe their cars are broken or blew up or are just SO dull that they'd rather sit in front of the computer all night.

Jordan

For Dave to state that we should vote until our mouse breaks is just plain ignorant and disrepectful. My time spent on Kicking Tires was to remain informed about a topic I have great interest in. I thought Kicking Tires was going to turn into a respected source unfortunately I agree with the previous poster that it's geared for the MTV crowd. Not about the cars, it's about how many times I can click my mouse.

Joey1

Well, in the next round of sedan voting, the Crown Vic will go against its polar opposite, the Mini Cooper. The Sonata will face the Mazda6, the Altima faces the Accord, and the Fusion faces the ever-so-domitable Corolla.

Jordan,
This is supposed to be fun. A lark to break up the day. It is not supposed to influence peoples' shopping decisions etc. like our research and the news I've been posting here for nearly a year now. If you think one interactive feature that in no way is being billed as "authoritative" does all that I don't know what to tell you. At least we had you here for as long as we did and once the contest is over its over. We'll just be doing one update post a day until then and you can just scroll by it and pay no attention.

All,
Because of your feedback we have changed the voting procedure for all future voting to one vote per user. Thanks!

J

But what has done to the Camry could not be changed.
So what's the point?

SecretSquirrel

What has been done to the Camry? Nothing but reality check.

It's funny, when I originally read about this the first thing I thought was, "there's no way Dave is going to blog through this with open comments." After two days everyone seems upset, and one of my comments was deleted. What were you thinking, Dave?

I'm a little disappointed with the decision to go to one vote per person. I was enjoying all the drama and I was interested in seeing all the Crown Victoria supporters and ticked off detractors compete. Especially after the MINI had its great second half come from behind win.

It boggles my mind that people would consider this tournament serious car advice. The cars often aren't facing off against with their direct competitors. In almost any bracket there's only a small minority of people who have actually driven both cars, and you don't even know what criteria people are using to make their decisions. Let it go.

Incidentally, my guess is that the Crown Vic would have beaten the Camry even if round 1 had been one vote per person.

Doug

For each person that is offended by this and threatening to stop visiting the site there are a hundred or so that are either mildly amused or just dont care either way. Because really, its a popularity contest. I guess these are the same people that get upset when their favorite contestant in American Idol doesn't make it to the next round? Who knows, either way though cars.com will remain the favorite information site for me and many many many other drivers.

Infosaur

Can't,,,, Stop,,, Laughing!!!

So the Crown Vic supporters are the MTV crowd?

I thought the only time an MTV'er would be in a Crown Vic is when they're in the back seat after too much "adult beverage"!

This is TOOOOO funnay!

Gishy

I've driven Camrys and Crown Vics. The Camry feels and drives like a pile of crap on wheels. Anyone that thinks Camrys or Toyotas in general are good cars are just dupes who believe everything Consumer Reports wants to tell you. Search online and find out how many Toyota owners over the last 8 years have had their engines just stop and need to be replaced. Get a mind of your own and do the research and you will see why the Crown Vic is winning.

Also, I would have like to have seen a Jag in the list. Maybe next time.

Wow ! I can't believe all these people who can't believe that The Crown Vic did so well.
All you who bash your country and anything made in America, I suggest you pack your bags, give up your citizenship and move to Korea or to China and go to work for those companies whose cars you love while bashing your country.
You will see your wages tumble and once again you might envy to once again be a citizen of this great country.
The Crown Vic is a very reliable car. Mine has over 200,000 origianl miles with origianl running gear and is still running strong.
