DreamShare: Spreading Exotic-Car Love

Dreamshare

Have you ever wanted to own an exotic car but didn’t want to deal with the stratospheric cost, high repair bills and constant worry about dings? If so, there’s finally a way. Starting at $9,000 a year, you can join the DreamShare club in New York City or Miami. As the name implies, it’s basically a timeshare for exotic cars.

The $9,000 fee gets you the entry Platinum level, which includes 20 driving days. Basic math tells us that’s $450 a day. $450 a day to basically rent an Aston Martin Vanquish, Bentley Continental GTC, Ford GT, Ferrari F430 or Porsche 911 Turbo. The company even drops it off and picks it up for you.

There are other levels, of course. Titanium ups the days to 45 at a cost of $18,000, or $400 a day, while the Elite membership, with 90 driving days, costs $27,000/$300 a day. Your days never expire, and the organization is looking to add rare rides like the Pagani Zonda. To some folks, 20 days in these cars might be worth more than a week in an Aspen condo.

According to Cars.com's five-year cost of ownership tool, a Mercedes SL65 ($186K) costs some $227,000 to own over five years. I estimate conservatively that an equivalently priced Lambo or Ferrari would triple the cost for maintenance, repairs and insurance, which raises the total to $297K. That works out to $163 a day.

Still, if Hertz charges $300 to rent a Mustang GT-H, a deal like this isn't bad.

only 20 or 45 driving days? To SOME that may not seem like enough (like me).

How much does it cost to get a time-share on a corporate jet? I know those are available, would they cost more or less than this program, I wonder?
