2007 Chicago Auto Show: More on the 2008 Scion xD, Arriving in August

Xd1

Scion is calling the xD an all-new vehicle, but really it’s a logical replacement for the outgoing xA subcompact hatchback. We’re guessing that because the xA never lived up to expectations, a new name was in order. The xD is based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, and it looks like it. We wonder if there are enough customers out there for both.

Like the new xB, the xD has iPod integration standard, and a customized model was also rolled out. We’ll have more on both custom vehicles a bit later, with their exact modifications. For now, check out another batch of xD photos.

i like it, xA LWB. i wish the guages were center mounted like before, just a personal preference.

Gauges make me think of Darth Vader for some reason...

fucar

I like it. will buy one. DON'T LIKE center mounted.

Happymantis

futuristic, but somehow more mainstream than its predecessor.
Still looks like a solid buy.

Hmmm. A PT Cruiser with the retro bred out? An Element that doesn't want to be a contractor's van when it grows up? Don't know who's responsible for that weirdo nose thing that Toyota's doing lately....

I like it, tho.

If you ask me it looks and awful lot like my Suzuki SX4 inside and out. I'm sure it's a good small car but I'd still rather have the AWD my Zuk has and until Scion/Toyota puts out an AWD vehicle for under 15K it won't catch my attention or consider it to be in the same league notwithstanding the badge. To all that are considering the Scions do yourself a favor and check out the SX4 it's the sleeper B segment car of the year.

I'm glad they did away with the center gauges - I didn't buy a Scion before because of it.

Looks like a mini matrix to me.

Speaking of the Matrix, why isn't it at the show?

I'm glad you can now get the xB with side and side curtain airbags. I wouldn't buy the first generation xB for that reason. I'm also glad traction control and 4 wheel disk ABS is included. And I like the styling.

Any info on how much gas mileage is being sacrificed with the bigger engine? And what's this baby going to cost?

It looks decently sized at certain angles and at other times it looks small. Anyone know if the xD is larger than the xB ?
