Pontiac G8 to Debut at Chicago Auto Show

Abcg8

We all knew it would happen, but GM made it official today, announcing that the all-new Pontiac G8 sedan will debut at the Chicago Auto Show next week. The announcement was prompted by an ABC News special that aired last night in which GM’s Rick Wagoner showed off the front end of the new G8 to Charlie Gibson. As we told you before, the new G8 is based on the also-new Holden Commodore sedan that GM produces in Australia. It will be rear-wheel drive, with an optional V-8 engine of some type, we’re sure.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Al

I spent some time in Australia a while back and the Holdens were really horrible quality. The standard of Australian workmanship was really terrible and the cars were very shoddily assembled. The recently defunct Mitsubishi Diamante was imported from Australia too, and that wasn't of great quality either, so I wouldn't get too excited about these Hontiacs or Poldens or whatever from down under...

Al,
All I can compare it to is the GTO which was basically a holden with pontiac badging. the GTO had a terrific interior, of much higher quality than anything GM had done at the time. Its failure was really the rough and tumble ride, small trunk and impracticality married to a hefty sticker. If you wanted a muscle car though it certainly took the cake. I think if this has a holden interior with a good ride, it'll be a hit.

Me

Al, when were you in Australia, 1970?

Me2

You spoke too soon Al, the Commodore the G8 is based on just won 'Car Of The Year' in Oz.

Check the Holden website for specs as they will be very similar for the G8, plus there's photo's of the Efijy to drool over.

Adamsy

and after you hav looked at the holden website have alook and there preformance versions HSV (Holden special vehicles) WWW.HSV.com.au good stuff its a wonder why they didnt jus take our HSV based stuff and export it instead of trying to make the SS look tougher instead of sleek
