New 2007 Dodge Ram 2500, 3500 Clean Diesels Coming in March

Ramengine

Dodge — along with the EPA — is calling the new 2007 Ram 2500 and 3500 the cleanest diesel pickups ever, and one can be yours in March if you pony up the $32,750 starting price, plus $900 in destination charges. The diesel beast powering these heavy-duty trucks is a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel that produces 350 hp and 650 pounds-feet of torque, compared to the outgoing model’s 325-hp 5.9-liter with 610 pounds-feet of torque. In the heavy-duty truck game, torque is king, and buyers will also enjoy the addition of a six-speed automatic transmission and a 50% quieter engine. Towing remains the same, though, at 16,350 pounds.

What makes the emissions so clean is a new self-cleaning particulate filter added to the exhaust system. More important for the tinkerers out there, the muffler is separate from the system, so it can be replaced without impacting emissions.

The 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi gasoline engine still remains the base power plant for the lineup and is on sale now, but heavy-duty truck shoppers are increasingly buying diesel, and this is a worthy new entry.

Sounds like a great first step. How 'bout a Dually MegaCab with a true 8 foot bed to go with the engine?

Troy

$33,000 starting price. Ouch. Any mention of fuel economy?

Diesels are expensive, people that are looking to buy them know that (for the most part). A loaded up crew cab diesel truck will top out in the mid to high 50s. But the pulling power of one can't be beat.

These new ratings for the Cummins put it where the latest Duramax engine is rated: 360/650

Troy

I think it would be hard to attract a first time diesel buyer with prices like that. Doesn't Dodge need new customers?

jon

Have you ever heard the dodge engine. it is so loud. they said that it would be 50 % Quieter.. then maybe it would be almost to the Duramax engine. The dodge engines blow out Black smoke everytime you start them too.
Nice try dodge but i think that FORD might even have a better engine than you. But no even close to as good as the DURAMAX

How many V-8 diesels have you duramax, power stroke lovers ever seen in a semi that ought to tell you something.duramax also uses aluminum heads come on if you know ANYTHING about diesels you would ? this.

I just received my new 6.7 2500 quad cab 4x4 LWB big horn edition for a total of 40,600.00 out the door, bluetooth and spray-in liner included. There is no reason to have to pay into the 50,000.00 range for even the mega cab edition decked out. As for noise level it is noticably quieter.

I bought a '06 Dodge Ram 2500 V-6 Diesel this past January, 2006. First Diesel I ever purchased.....best-built truck I ever bought (have owned 7 past trucks, most in the Ford 150 series, or Dodge 1500 series. My only critism is suspension-related (as I don't use it to tow anything), as it tends to side-skip bordering control loss.I paid close to $ 48,000 for this vehicle-and am still really please with it 14 months past.

The best thing about Dodge trucks in my area is that they are willing to deal on the price. The two people who posted ahead of me mention paying 48K and 40K. That is crazy. Here in the Denver, CO area you can get a 07 2500 Big Horn for right at 29-33K. You can also get them on EBay Motors from a dealer in NC. To not do your homework and give some one an extra 10-15K is crazy. For that much you could have gotten a Duramax.

duramax is not even in comparison to any other motors out there...... duramax is for pussyies

Just ran accross this site, read a few blogs and decided to post. I'd like to say my brother has a 2006 3500 dodge with a cummins diesel it's a nice truck, I bought a Ford F-350 with a 5th wheel "combo" it was powered with a powerstroke diesel. The ford I owned, seemed underpowered, it was had a standard trans, I have a neuropathy and severe numbness in my feet and could'nt shift the truck very well. Needed a get a truck to pull my 38 foot 5th wheel and bought a 2007 GMC with a duramax or a "duradud" as what my brother calls it. I bought it because of the allison tranny, and I qualify for GM discount "my wifes works for GM". I called my brother and told him, for give me brother for I have sinned. He told me I'd be sorry for not buying a Dodge, He said that duradud won't pull the hills with that big trailer you have. Well folks been on the road for about 3 months now, what a pleasant surprise my duradud is, were into mountain country right now, Wyoming, and I pull with my cruise on most of the time becuase of my nueropathy, I drive between 65-70 with the 5th wheel. This has now happened at least 3 times, I've past by Dodges when cruising down the highway, "go cummins" I'll continue to drive "with my cruise on" in the trailer tow mode, I'll pass the Dodge on long hill runs, as soon as hill goes away so will the Dodge, I guess I'm pleased with the my Dud.

I bought a Dodge 2007 inline 5.9 3500 duallie Big Horn this past spring here in South Dakota for $33K from a dealer. It is a great truck and I get around 19 mpg around town and on the highway. Go Dodge!

The love hate relationship between Ford and Dodga has again never seems to suprise me. The F450 for 2008 WOW!! what a lot of truck, but hauling over 20k LBS,why? I don't know if 5th wheels are up in that range yet, more incentive for the 5th wheel companies to go large and heavy. The Cummins has been a 6 cylinder realiable motor for years. Fuel and valve train changes but still the same old six that has been pounding the ground for years, not a remodled V-8 to do the work of six. I really do not know if one is beter that the other personal choice I would guess. Research concluded that the pro and cons for both are there to support each others product. My personal choice for the last 10yrs has been Dodge 3500 4x4, 5.9 Diesel dually quad cab 8' box. This truck has never let me down. Periodic maintance a must or you will have problems, but after 130k miles it starts every day and pulls what ever is required at the moment, mostly friends Chevys and Fords that broke down. This again is not to insult or a put down to the other manufactures but my personal experince has been that the old 6 cylinder configuration is the best out there for heavy duty purposes. If Cummins would consider putting there motor in a Chevy or Ford. Then the only thing to worry/fight about would be the opptions with the basic model price at purchase. Good luck!

if you buy a dodge with a cummins you are getting medium duty rated diesel (400,000 miles) verses the chevy and ford lite duty diesel (200,000 miles) for approximately the same price. if you trade every couple years and want a throw away truck, then the chevy and ford will be fine as they will be covered by the warranty.but for me i'll get the dodge and have a engine that'll last double.

JUST MADE A DEAL ON A 07 2500 SLT 6.7 AUTO THUNDER ROAD. LOOKS LIKE MANY DEALERS BOUGHT TOO MANY BEFORE THE HOUSING CRUNCH IN THE SOUTH. THAT LEFT ALOT OF 2500'S LEFT ON THE LOTS. WHEN YOU SEE A WINDOW STICKER OF 42,195 DON'T THINK YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING NEAR THAT. MY DEAL WAS 33,000 OUT THE DOOR W/TAX. INCLUDED BEDLINER, TUBE STEPS AND U-CONNECT.
HAD TO SHOP ALL OVER THE STATE FOR 2 WEEKS, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. TOTAL SAVED UNDER STICKER, 12,280.00 EXCELLENT DEALS THIS YEAR!

I picked up my 07.5 Fast Black Dodge Ram Longhorn Edition, 3500, QC, long bed, 4x4 with the 6.7L Cummins and six speed auto for $38,257, $42,000 with taxes and they threw in a tank of diesel. The MSRP was $49,667. My other truck is an 04 Nissan Titan and I was expecting the Dodge to be a big lumbering pig to drive but to my surprise it's not. They've done a lot of changes to the steering and even with the solid front axle, limited slip rear end and dual rear wheels the truck drives very small.

45MPH posted corners I took in the Titan at 65 mph I also take at 65MPH in the Dodge. Parking is simple except for the length and I no longer fit width wise in the drive thru at the bank but it is a 1 ton truck. I have 6000 miles on her and I'm averaging 15.4 MPG and she has a long way to go before she's broke in so the MPG will improve some.

Just so you know I'm not a Dodge loyalist. I bought the Cummins 6.7L because I feel matched up to the Aisin 6 speed Auto it's the best diesel package on the market which happens to be mounted to a Dodge frame and only time and a couple hundred thousand miles will tell me if I'm right.

If you would like more info on the Cummins or have questions please feel free to contact me at http://cumminsownerz.com and I'll do my best to help out.

1 week before the night of the 3 black Angus, my BF finally replaced the transmission in his '05 1 ton Cummings 3500. 490,000 - yep four hundred ninety thousand MILES of pulling a 30 foot flatbed with loads of 12,000 lbs. up and down mountains through avalanches sometimes for 2,000 miles without ever turning the engine off.

Now he has a new Cummings 3500 1 ton. 2 wheel drive. As I type this he is headed to Farmington, NM, probably driving through clouds. And I'm not worried a bit.

I have owned 3 dodge diesel trucks 93 drove 240k avg 18 mpg quit driving it cause of electrical problems.overall was happy with the 93 truck.Next a 99 5.9 4x4 drove truck 175k avg mpg 16 to 18 mpg. traded truck in due to head gasket started leaking still overall got a good run out of the truck. Some may not think these 2 trucks should of drove farther but I am hard on trucks and drive alot of hwy & dirt roads. Then came the new 2007 6.7 4x4 2500 mega cab more power than most need.Bought oct 07 milage @ June 08 37,000.Some things you need to know mpg avg 12,4 to 13.4 best being 14.4 worst 11 mpg.(this is truck only with 500lbs of tools no trailer hauling)you can not idle truck to long with out plugging exhaust filter and if you do idle or low speed driving you can carbon up turbo and cause the turbo shaft to break (mine broke @ 21000 miles )Dodge dealers answer do'nt idle more than 10 min. and yep do'nt know why trucks get 12 mpg.You can also read the idle warning in the manuel(wish they would of said this before i bought truck)And then we come to the oil changing The 93 & 99 could go 5000 mles easy between oil change.2007 gets so much carbon in oil from circ exhaust that by 2500 to 3500 miles it actually gains 1/2 to 1 quarts.Reminds me of my 5.7 & 6.2 diesels of the eighties always looked like you never changed oil.(and if you owned 5.7 or 6.2 they were famous for wearing out rocker arms and piston pins)I guess the egr type system is green for the enviroment but the only green I see is what it cost for repars to have it.Well this is just a small part of problems i'm having with the 2007 dodge truck but so far it's the major problems.THE point is the 2007 dodge 6.7 is not your old dodge truck. I at least expected the new truck to be better than my 93 & 99 trucks but maybe I was expecting to much being the 2007 cost only $48,000 I can't speak for all dodge truck owners but I fill like all I bought was a $48,000 hickie.

Wow that sounds like a great step for diesel trucks to take. Do you know how the fuel injection pumps have changed?
