2007 Detroit Auto Show: Jeep Trailhawk Concept

Trailhawk1002jp

Boy, would this be a good-looking future Grand Cherokee. Sure, the Trailhawk Concept you see here has an open, truck-like rear, a squashed greenhouse and probably zero visibility — and it’s built on the Wrangler’s more truck-like platform — but forget all that. This would be a great Grand Cherokee. The only problem is that the Grand Cherokee — like most large SUVs — isn’t selling so well these days.

Plus this isn’t supposed to be a future Grand Cherokee; it sports more off-road heritage because of those Wrangler underpinnings. Didn’t Jeep just come out with the four-door Wrangler Unlimited to satisfy the need for something like this? We’re not quite sure what to make of the Trailhawk, but if Jeep took some of the styling cues here and integrated them into the next Grand Cherokee — and came up with some more-efficient power plants for it — it would probably pick up some sales. Especially with those huge T-Tops.

That’s why these are called concepts. Not every one is perfect for the dealership, but they sure look good at car shows.

With the protruding fenders this looks like a take off of the vehicle Chevrolet produced a few years back.

This looks like a promising start to where Jeep is going with their off-road tradition. It seems now more than ever people are buying 4x4's just to own the road rather than using it off the pavement. Fact is, over 80% of people who own a 4x4 never even engage in it. Pretty sad right. It should be the opposite. But that doesn't mean to stop making 4x4's for people who don't need them. Even with the small percentage who actually take thier 4x4 vehicles off-road, the after-market industry is booming. That should be a huge red flag for Jeep to start making thier vehicles shells for upgrades and come with the essentials. That way if people want to take it to the street or off-road they have the choice. As with all this crossover crap coming out of Hummer and Landrover's "gah-rage"....they'll only ever appeal to the arrogant and the rich. More power to 'em I guess.

I'm not sure who should be driving it -- Mad Max for the exterior, or the Beach Boys meeting the Jetsons for the interior?

I have never seen such a cool Jeep in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please please make this Jeep just the way it is.

This is a very good looking mall cruiser. With its 22-inch wheels, signature seven-slot Jeep grille, and HID projector beam quad lamps... Surely I wanna take it off road...
