2007 Detroit Auto Show: Jaguar C-XF Concept

Cxf1

Before we start blabbing just take a gander at the photo above. Impressed? This is the new design Jaguar hopes will stir the soul enough to rescue the struggling luxury marquee from lackluster sales and the butt of jokes around the valet line. We think it could actually live up to all of the automaker’s greatest hopes.

What you’re looking at is a concept car, but expect next year’s XF — the car that will replace the current S-Type — to look very similar to this four-door coupe concept. Four-door coupes have been the design range since Mercedes introduced the stunning CLS a couple of years back.

Besides the extreme looks and a supercharged V-8 engine we don’t know much more about the C-XF. Look for more information to come during the Detroit auto show starting Jan. 7. Of course, you can also scroll below for a huge collection of photographs.

Can't stand the grille. It's oversized and dull. What happened to the lovely Jag fishmouth????

Tom

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!

Lil'Tom

I would guess they had to make the grill a little bit ugly to keep some of the S-Type customers. What's up with that ugly cat head though? Jaguar's pouncing kitty is perhaps the greatest logo ever. I'd rather see the grill have a little one of those in the corner or no logo at all.

Other than that... WOW.

Graham

The grille isn't right - looks too much like a Maserati with a BMW badge in it, the excessively bling wheels detract from the side view, and the interior just looks cheap and gimicky, but overall, yes, it's stunning.

BTW, the current S-type was well named. Although Jaguar would have liked us to believe it was a modern reincarnation of the MK 2 - a really beautiful car - the original S-type was the front of a MK 2 glued to a shrunken MK 10 rear, and every bit as mishapen as the modern S-type.

What? What is with all the hating here? I mean common, this car is stunning! It flat out blows me away, I would have never guessed this was a jag I'd of thought BMW or someone with class!

My guess is that most of the haters here, judging by one comment concerning long ago-history of Jaguar, are old people. Listen, like the old cars? Buy them, and let the new cars prices slide down for the young people with some enthusiam left in them.

The lines, the curves, the V8 which will hopefully make some power (unlike the current, wimpy 4.2L), when pricing is released I'll start crunching numbers to see if I can get this beauty!

awesome lookin car, not to fond of the gauges tho.

Best thing about the car is it doesn't look like a Jag. The grill looks tough - but current emblem has to go. Ford should have used this design on the Fusion to improve sales and sold the Jag brand - IMO

99% of this car is a thing of beauty; however that Audi-like attention getting grill has got to go. Nobody every looks at a Mercedes CLS and say wow, nice grill, they say, wow, nice car. That grill on a sleek car like the C-XF just makes it look like there’s a huge hole in the front.

I think Jag jumped way too far ahead with this one. Revolution instead of evolution. Lost way too many familiar Jag styling cues, hardly any family resemblance left. BMW used to be the best at gradually updating and modernizing it's cars over time to stay fresh. Then came Bangle...

RS

The grille bears resemblance to the grille from the Mark X from the 60s and the XJ12 from the 70s. Since the C-XF is a concept car not all the design features will get incorporated into the production car and the interior will most certainly be completely different. It is a shame however, that the aluminium unibody used in the current XJ and XK will not be employed in the XF, from what I have read.

As a current Jaguar owner, I can honestly say that I love the brand becuase of it's history.
Until the recent update of the XK, the cars virtually haven't changed in 50 years. Looking at the C-XF concept, it's hard to accept this new car as a part of the jaguar bloodline...but I'm still in my twenties and this vehicle is absolutely amazing!!!
The head lights are beautifully modern still hinting at the old jaguar look, along with the sailboat tapered tail boasting beautiful hips this time around. The logo in the grill is nicely done, but I'd much rather have a modernized statuette of the leaping cat on the bonnet. I think that Jaguar is definitely headed in the right direction with this one.
I'm going to keep my all time favorite-my 1996 Vanden Plas, but my S-type is going to become the down payment on my new C-XF in 2009.
It's about time Jaguar, this one is a winner!

those statuettes aren't allowed for pedestrian safety reasons in Europe thus they usually don't include them on the concepts. You can get the XJ, stype and xtype in the states with a statuette but not the new XK and I doubt this XF when it becomes available.

Dante

bently style.

Aston martin & ferrari for the win.

Andrew Brennan

Of course this is a Jaguar! I own an X-type which I love (far more beautiful in the metal than in photos)but Jaguar got into a bit of a rut by continuing a style that was once the most beautiful in the world. The great thing about the early Jags was their DIFFERENCE one from the other. The glorious icons, the E-type (XKE) and MK 2 are hardly twins!
This is the most stunning Jaguar since those beauties and, despite some comments, I think the recessed grill and recessed growler badge are FABULOUS. The grill size give the impression of power, that such a size is needed to cool the beast. Ian Callum, you're a genius.

Tim

This is one of the best looking, if not the best looking, car I've seen in recent years. If this concept makes it to production with its visual quality intact, I see a real winner for Jaguar.

Don

How close to concept do really think Jaguar will make the production car?
I have seen some "spy shots" of a supposed XF production car that looks more like Taurus than a C-XF.
It would be a real shame and probably end up being another nail in their coffin if Jaguar rolled off a lame interpretation of this concept as a production car.
Note to Jaguar: You have got a winner here, guys! Build it as is (or very very close)and I'll buy it.

Been show this car by a good friend (anthony sidhu) and I have to say, what a car. Thats prob one of the best jaguar's Know to man. Top work !!!! I want one lol

Mate did you look at this car lol, this car is all about evolution !!!! take another look at the car lol

Tin-tin

Anthony Sidhu (blagger) thinks he owns Landrover and Jag, he told us he was Director or some kind of important person.

When in fact he is call center operative, who some times delivers cars, and whilst delivering the cars drives around Coventry showing off and trying to pick up girls.

Anthony when are you going to grow up.lol

Purplegirl

I work with Anthony Sidhu and he's a good lad, but your right about a few things, He can talk for England and thinks he's related to the Queen.

Sorry Anthony.

saz

Anthony's got one in his brother's garage. HEHEHE!

Can say who I am

Anthony why are these people dissing you?

I think this car is great, concept car like Anthony's concept world right!

:-) only messing ant.

Anglo-Indians

Thanks for emailing me this link, i cannot say much except that i seen better concept models. Its a copy of something i seen years ago.

Who is Anthony Sidhu the Designer?? Never heard of him.

Tarzan

Anthony sidhu works with us, this blog is for our department and i guess Anthony's mates have jumped on to say a few words.

Lets keep this clean people.

Anthony please leave us alone our ears are killing and stop rubbing up phil! lol

Anthony Sidhu's Worst Nightmare

Is this the Anthony Sidhu who talks smack all day long. Who has had about 50 differnet jobs in last 5 years. If we both on the same wave length just tell him an old friend is about to pay him a visit

Sidu's second worst nightmare

Well we were talking about a beautiful fast car but we appear to have gone off the subject to talk about the original Captain Bulls**t.

It's a shame as he's a nice guy and he's no need to talk crap, it just makes him look pathetic.

Never mind he'll learn someday.

Back to the XF now....
