More on the New Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Cclasssportandluxury

The initial media frenzy is over and it appears Mercedes-Benz’s media site is back up and running. We now get to learn about what will power the all-new C-Class when it arrives late this summer…the exact same engines that power the current C-Class. The V-6 engines will be matched to a six-speed manual or new optional seven-speed automatic transmission and will get better mileage with a slight bump in power.

The C230 will see an increase of 3 horsepower up to 204 hp, the C 280 moves up to 231 hp and the top-of-the-line C350 will produce 272 hp up from 268 hp. More significantly, the new C Class has an entirely new suspension system and various standard safety features. The paint even sports nano-technology to make the new C-Class more scratch resistant.

We also have a lot more photos below including the Sport sedan and its different grille and multiple shots of the interior.

This time MB C-Class has something great. Now C-class can easily compete with new BMW 3 series and infinti G35, her primarily competitors.

Best looking Benz I have ever seen. Without looking like other cars and yet not being ugly, I am not sure if they are going to offer BlueTec and if they do it will be awesome.

Should I call this the second-opinion entry?

First, it's still not a real joy to behold. That side crease does absolutely nothing for the design except direct attention to the fun-house-mirror proportions of the tail. The greenhouse is too far back (thanks again, Bay-Em-Vay). It's just not the dignified, restrained elegance that for so long has been the visual signifier of what a Mercedes-Benz essentially is.

The "sport" grille is a world better than the "lux" grille. The headlights are laid back far enough to make the "lux" version look downright bucktoothed.

The interior is nice, although again I'd take sport over lux. The secret-hidey-place flap for the nav computer is kind of gimmicky, though.

Syed ironically introduced the element that makes me most deeply question my long fondness for German machinery; with the 3-Series having been Bangleized, the A4 molested with that ill-fitting "shield" grille motif that Audi is slapping on everything, and now the C-class becoming what it will be, my attention has turned to the fact that the new Infiniti G35 sedan is an absolute gem. I know of at least one respected motojournalist who owns a current-generation G35, and if there's any real indicator of what's worth owning, that has to be it.

I see a hint of IS here with a touch of BMW interior. I do love the design. However, I find it amusing that the C230 offers a base hp of 204 when a V6 Accord, Altima, and Camry offer roughly 50 or more hp for much less money.

I understand that Mercedes offers a higher quality auto with a flawless interior, but an automobile is a depreciating asset. And Accord, Altima, and Camry will last just as long, if not longer. And, we all know that people who purchase this car really can't afford it. So, c'mon America, do your homework; save yourself 10 large and buy one of the aforementioned. Just think of the size of the television you could buy for 10 grand.

I also think you'll see MB upgrading the engines during the lifecycle of the model. So in 2 years the big announcement will be a new family of V6 engines etc.

The V6 engines are carry over.
German car makers rate power in DIN PS
Deutsches Institut für Normung Pferdestärke
It is a metric approximation of horsepower.
So the engines are still 201, 228, 268hp
No direct injection in the US market yet.

A few weeks ago, i browsed internet and found some images that tells its the new MB C-Class, but it's very different from what we saw here. can anyone tell me why MB not use the great looking and more sporty model that i saw in the internet? its looks cooler, sleeker, and dynamic, just like sports car.

Joe Raykill

I really love the new design its is so much better then the old design. The moment that it comes out im going to buy one

I am currently living in Germany & the MB dealer down the street has just put a couple of the new '08 C classes on display!! They look awesome, they have one Sport model & one regular. Very sweet cars to see in person! A few interior bit r a bit cheap looking tho. I think the steering wheel is a bit on the cheapo side, but otherwise very nice!! Can't wait to drive one!

Sporty look but disappointing driving compared to a bmw 3-serie. Fine enterior and great tech. Could have done better on driving pleasure.

Is there a European delivery option for Americans living in Germany? And if so, is there a set time that the car needs to be sent back or is that date open? Will sell my two Jags for this one. anyone interested?

Daz

There is a dealer in Ramstein, Germany who sells US spec Mercedes. U can tell they r cuz of the tacky side reflector in the side of the bumper, very awful looking add on. I recently drove a Euro spec & liked it for the most part except some interior bits felt cheap. The navi screen is very kewl tho, as well as the instrument cluster.
