2007 Detroit Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Magnum and Magnum SRT8

500_dg008_011ma

We’re not even bothering to give these two models separate blog posts; changes to the 2008s are so minimal it makes us wonder why they needed a big public unveiling in Detroit. Nothing has changed to the engines, suspension, etc. What you’ll actually notice are smaller headlights.

Some of us like them, some of us don’t, but we all agree on the fact that there isn’t a major change for the model, and the 2008s probably won’t bring a rush of new buyers into showrooms. For the record, there are some more minimal changes to the exterior and interior other than the headlights, but they were so minute we couldn’t really tell from the photos of the Magnum R/T and 425-hp SRT8 you’ll find below.

I think the nose looks a lot better now, more like a Charger, more aggressive.

The only nice thing I'll say about Dodge is that it introduced a cool and functional station wagon, something the Japanese abandoned years ago.

The nose looks a bit better, but how could it not? The outgoing Magnum was one of the ugliest cars on the road. The SRT looks better still. Toning down the overblown crosshair grille is a smart move. Unfortunately, the interior still looks cheap and plastic. Without the hemi there's not much to love.

If you haven't driven one give it a try. you'll fall in love.

I had one as a rental for two weeks and I loved it. Had puny 2.7 v6 but loved the room and ride.

Les

I like the outgoing Magnum more than the future 2008 model. The Magnum looks good as it is and should not be changed. Dodge just lost a long-time fan.
