Volvo XC60 Concept Gets Early Reveal
We’re not sure if leaks on the web yesterday led to an early official release of the Volvo XC60 by the Swedish automaker, but we can tell you this is the big concept Volvo will show in the flesh at the Detroit auto show next month. This luxury compact SUV is based on the new Land Rover LR2 and would slate below the XC90 in the brand’s lineup.
It’s pretty wild, but expect the production model to look a lot like it when it hits the streets in early 2009. The only part we don’t quite “get” is the sit-up-straight grille treatment stuck in the middle of a slightly sloping front end. See how the headlights and grill don’t feature the same slant? That’s a pretty jarring look.
Volvo has been trying to break out of its boring design language for years, and by borrowing from the Ford Iosis X concept that debuted in Paris earlier this year, the company could finally be getting out of its rut. More pictures below.

Hey! A Volvo I like! It looks good, its refreshing to see that look.
Your right, it is pretty jarring, but when you are going to be seen in something that costs thousands of dollars, it might as well have a shock factor to it.
Looks great! Stunning. Volvo (and Ford) should definitely build this as is. If they designed and built sumptuous-looking cars like this, they wouldn't be hurting for sales.
Enticing!i the love design, value, brand, as well as the latest automotive innovations and high technology features...wow!thats what a volvo manufacturers can do...people who are up to adventure would certainly be loving this car..it is not just redesign vehicle holding Volvo V40 parts.(http://www.swedishpartsshop.com/volvov40parts.html
..it is the kind of look that the future will be having..
With that jarring volvo grille, it doesn't matter to me..people will never notice or if they do, it'll be ignored. There are still plenty of cool features to it that they won't waste a time on that grille but to just simply love the new volvo XC60.
Nooooooo!!! Volvo's designers have succumbed to the wave of me-too-ism that has swept the auto industry in the last 5 years. The LAST thing a safe car needs is a chest-height beltline, a rear window that's barely 10 inches high, and those peculiar little "flip" rear windows! Part of safety is being able to SEE out of a car without needing some expensive, high-tech TV system.
I have no nostalgia for the boring old "box on a box" designs of the 70's and 80's. The XC90 showed that it's possible to actually produce a stylish SUV that doesn't look like a sneaker on steroids, so why this?
