2007 Detroit Auto Show: Toyota FT-HS Concept

Fths1

Christmas brought one extra present for car fanatics around the world. Yesterday, Toyota took the wraps off the concept it will officially unveil at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 8. Why’d we get the early look? We’re not quite sure, but we’re not complaining.

The FT-HS is a hybrid sports car that the company says would be an “attainable exotic” and be “mid-priced.” We’re not sure what that means, but it could eventually fill the spot the Supra once occupied. The powerplant sounds similar to the current Lexus GS450h with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. The FT-HS will supposedly manufacture 400 hp, all going to the rear wheels.

Seating is a 2 + 2 affair with a new roof structure that will allow for large open panels while still providing structural rigidity. All that and the wild appearance means we’ll really be looking forward to seeing this concept in the flesh next month.

This is hot, the cockpit is very driver-oriented. If they actually produce it in this form it would definitely feel like an exotic.

finally a non-bland toyota. looks great wonder if they'd make a non-hybrid version (less weight).

WHY DO CAR MANUFACTURES STILL INSIST ON USING STEARING WHEELS?

I have one word for this vehicle. Sweet. If Toyota builds it I will buy it.

Looks too much like a 350Z, IMHO.

The cockpit looks like a fighter's cockpit...not really into extreme stylings like this one...

The solo space of Toyota FT-HS Hybrid is a concept of centering the vehicle around the driver. It does give the driver a sense of control beyond a typically production car. This vehicle seems to really have a quite a flare and I believe will win in the “Best Featured Car at Detroit Auto Show Poll”

guess again

The looks of a 350z and a 599 GTB with toyota reliability! I'd buy it.

Wrap it up, I'll take it. I wish they would produce this in this form, but they will probably water it down so much that you will hardly see any similarities. Come on Toyota where are your guts?

Kevin

I see alot of styling cues from the last generation Celica GT-S. Looks good on the outside but, to me a little dated. The interior looks simple and un cluttered. However, it looks humdrum compared to other vehicles hosting copius gadgets, storage nooks and seating configurations. It better live up to it's fuel economy ratings too.

It looks like a bad bodykit over the last-gen Celica. Nissan 350Z looks a lot better.

this is a sexy car!! If it comes out Ill get it on the first week!

definitely looks great...but they should slap a different name and call it the new 2008 Toyota Supra!!

Congratulations, well done!

Congratulations, well done!

Of course this looks a lot better than the 350Z!!! I already ordered one for me!!!

like a diablo =)

using a steering wheel is a good choice, especially if you intend on making more.

Nice car :))
