2007 Detroit Auto Show: Nissan Rogue
Nissan joins the compact SUV market in the U.S. with its new Rogue seen here. The stylish little SUV will compete directly against the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 and will have available all-wheel drive. It’s powered by a 175 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder mated to a CVT transmission. A set of shift paddles on the steering wheel is optional, but we don’t see this as being a sports-oriented vehicle. It more aptly will fill the role as a compact hauler of people and their stuff with some style and high quality interior finishes, if it’s anything like the latest Sentra.
Stability control, traction control, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, front and rear curtain airbags and active head restraints are all standard. Nissan says the Rogue will go on sale in September 2007. Expect pricing to start around $20,000 with fully loaded models reaching the high $20,000 range.
We’ll have more information and live photos for you when the Rogue debuts to the media at the Detroit auto show on January 7. For now, continue reading for the photos Nissan has provided.

1. What took so long?
2. Why did Hyundai allow Nissan to re-use the Sante Fe rear on the Rogue?
Looks pretty nice, hope it's more reliable then my 2003 Maxima. Not to sure about the CVT as I've heard nothing but bad things from actual owners whose cars have them.
If there is no manual transmission option, then I'm not interested. The European version, the Nissan Qashqai offers a manual transmission. I gather Nissan can't appeal to everyone.
THIS IS A NICE PIECE OF CAR. THE INTERIOR IS COOL ESPECIALLY WITH THE RED SEATS AND METALLIC TRIM. IT WILL APPEAL TO MURANO OWNERS BUT THEY TURN DOWN THAT CAR BECAUSE ITS BASE PRICE IS LIKE AT 29 GRAND. PRETTY EXPENSIVE WHEN U ASK ME. MUCH OF THE TECHIES ARE STANDARD EQUIPMENT WHICH IS A GOOD THING SINCE STANDARD IS BETTER THAN OPTIONING. THE CVT SHOULD PROVE WELL IN AN ECONOMICAL SENSE WITH LITTLE DRAWBACKS LIKE SLUG-LIKE SPEEDING. THE REAR END IS NO RESEMBLANCE TO THE SANTA FE. IT WOULD PROBALY NOT HAVE A MANUAL 6 SPEED BUT WILL OFFER A MANUMATIC FOR ADDED GEAR SELECTION. REWORK THOSE RIMS.
This is the european Nissan qashqai, isnt it? Looks the same to me. The standard transmission must be a manual stonehauler.
What will happen to the Nissan Murano? I always believed that it fit the notch below the Xtera, Pathfinder and Armada.
Sherman,
This fits below the Murano in a Honda CR-V territory. The Murano starts int he high $20s, is larger, has a bigger engine and competes with the Grand Cherokees of the world.
John T, It is pretty much the Qashqai yes but with different powertrain, meaning no manual. FYI The CR-V doesn't offer a manual anymore either.
No manual makes no sense to me since most ppl around me buy standard nowadays...Better milage and more fun.. Oh well I'm not buying this car anyway.. Happy new year folks!
To add to what Dave T. said, the Murano competes with the Pilot and Highlander (and RAV4 V6), Ford Edge, and Chrysler Pacifica. Also, the Murano is about the same size as the Pathfinder but is built on a car platform (like the above-mentioned SUVs) and thus has better fuel economy and handling. The Murano is much more plush (and livable) than the Xterra, and I think it has more interior room.
Why did Nissan steal Hyundai's design? Because they felt it was OK since Hyundai stole that design from the Subaru B9 Tribeca.
"Because they felt it was OK since Hyundai stole that design from the Subaru B9 Tribeca."
LOL! That would be extrememly unlikely.
It's my understanding that the basic exterior design for the Veracruz was selected about four months before the B9 Tribeca debuted in January 2005, and the Santa Fe was pinned about a year before that.
I think you need to put a third row seat in the nissan murano its bigger than the Pathfinder. And you could tand to make it more fuel effient. Other wise it good. I am leasing one and need more room for people my garage just hold te murano it would be perfect if you put a third row seat in. thats all.
Just a note on Nissan's styling: Nissan did a fine job of digging themselves out of obscurity a little over a decade ago, but their recent styling trends are threatening to put them right back. They are moving backwards relative to their competition. The new corporate grille is especially bad and unfortunately can be found on almost all of their vehicles. They have all but killed the Maxima by making the Altima a better alternative at a better price and better looking. The new look of the Pathfinder and Titan is a step backward as well. For a company that trumpets their design in every commercial they had best start walking the walk.
