Lexus to Debut High-Performance Models at Detroit Auto Show

Isfteaser

Japanese luxury brand Lexus is getting into the high-performance game with a new moniker, F. The F designation will be added to the IS sports sedan first. The IS-F will be unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January along with a separate Lexus exotic sports concept.

Lexus is following the pattern of BMW’s M and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG models by adding significant performance upgrades to their biggest sellers. The rumored power plant for the IS-F is a 400+ hp V-8 borrowed from the upcoming Lexus LS 600 Hybrid. We’ll let you know as soon as we get more information.

what the heck? why would you name a high performance car with an "F" that's F'in retarted (pun intented) random letter...oh well leave it to toyota to be boring as heck!

J

Is it because of its design philosophy of L-Finesse?
Therefore it is using the letter F?

AS

finally, some high performance Toyotas (if that's possible). Well, I'll withhold judgement until I see 'em.

sum dude

Toyota is going to have at least one high performance car, if they decide to bring back the Supra somtime in 2008 or 2009.

i have a lexus F...sounds sexy...hahahaha F is usually failure right? i made an F on my exam...i dunno i just think its ironic...

ilija

Why not name it with F. How about US Air Force naming its fighter airplanes for the last 60+ years with letter f (f6f, f4, f14, f15, f16, f18 need more....). I think it is an excellent marketing move. For people coming from aerospace world this sounds attractive. Having your high performance car connected to fighter airplanes in that way. I like it!

There was no explanation of the F designation but it could be the L Finesse thing although I doubt it as it doesn't have anything to do with style, just performance.

F could be Fast too.

And its certainly as logical as M or S like BMW and Audi.

Pick on the silly marketing name all you want.
But the i300 is a sexy looking car. Beats the hell out of the looks of the latest BMW 3 series. I can't say I'd spend the money they'll be asking for this new 8 cylinder screamer though. I guess I'll wait to get a used well taken care of bargain a couple of three years after introduction.

I doubt Lexus was going after aerospace cadets with this one, ilija.
