why is kelley blue books trade in value so much higher than what you actually receive from the dealers? at first i thought the dealer was trying to get over on me until i went to many different dealers and received roughly the same amount from every dealer. i wish kelley blue book was more in line with actual trade in prices as this makes for more of a let down to the consumer

It has something to do with how good you maintain your vehicle. The estimate is not actual value. You may think your car is flawless, and KBB will not know if it is really flawless or not. But the dealers can see the actual car, so the value will more than likely to be lower.

Actually,

The stealerships are trying to make more money. They give you less than your vehicle is wort, sell it for even more so they put money in thier pocket. I traded in a Ford ranger a while back. The dealer gave 1200.00 for it. It was in excellent shape and had low miles. They turned around and put it on thier lot for 3000.00. It sold for 2400.00. That 1200.00 investment paid itself back and put 1200 in their pocket.

kelley blue book does have excellent, good and poor condition, i was not thinking my car was flawless, but their poor condition number, which my car was not in poor condition, was still higher than trade in value, and there is a difference between wholesale and retail value...that is the nature of retail, if you wanted retail value you could have done the work on your own and tried to sell the car and made an extra 1200

That is an interesting list indeed. Who would have thought that the prius would be up there?

Hybrit

Get a clue. The Prius has been one of the highest resale value cars for several years.
