Limited Edition Civic Si Sedan on the Way

Civicmugensi

Honda has produced a number of race-inspired versions of its cars in Asia — partnered with Mugen, a high-performance parts manufacturer — but the company has never brought them here. Now, AutoWeek is reporting that the Mugen Civic Si sedan concept that was shown at SEMA in Las Vegas last week will be coming to the United States.

This will be an extremely limited edition, with only 500 examples going on sale next spring at a cost of less than $30,000, according to Honda executives. The 197- hp engine and six-speed manual transmission will remain stock from the current Civic Si sedan, but there will be significant suspension, brake and body modifications. The Civic Si sedan went on sale last week starting at $21,895, and we’d expect this limited edition to bump up right against the $30,000 ceiling.

Why bother...unless it is pushing more than the usual market of 300-HP or better, here is a classic joke or waste of money for the sport compact class. As before, Honda stills hasn't got it right. [lol]

Reminds me of the Toyota claimed for a full-size truck that has taken more than three generations to finally duplicate what Nissan did in its first gen.

yeah I'm a bit surprised they don't add some new intake/exhaust or other little hp gains as well. The Si is pretty fun though.

30 grand for a rice burning economy car!!!! geez what has happened to the world!! we used to have bad ass sports car and real sedans with V8 and horsepower!!! now we have underpowered sedans that have names that sound like a kid's first word!!! and then a 197 hp sedan excites people??? whats up???

Nice car, although I'm really not too fond of the spoiler, those things just don't do it for me.. I did however see pics from SEMA-- check some of these cars out.

If it is a fully Mugen-tuned vehicle, the price is reasonable. But, at least not just adding more weights(bigger wings, underbody spoilers) but not more power.

I agree with many, for $30,000 I'd want some serious hp gains over the regular SI. What is that extra 6-$7000 getting you? Suspension and some plastic trim? This is the thing that gets me about special models or component upgrades from the factory. Yes you probably couldn't buy an SI and upgrade it to a Mugen yourself for less thant $30k, but I don't want to pay for the stock components too. You should pay for the "difference" in the upgraded components...not the price of stock + performance parts. I can think of 2 words for just over $30k...."EVO" or "STI."
