Hummer H4 is Coming

Hummergrille

It’s been rumored for some time, but now it seems the rumors are true. GM is going to debut a Hummer H4 concept vehicle at the Detroit auto show this January. Obviously, details weren’t released, but our best guess on the specifics of the future Hummer is that it will be a smaller SUV than the midsize H3, to take on the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ Cruiser. Since the H3 is still selling at a brisk pace it seems downsizing the Hummer brand isn’t a bad trend to follow.

Wait... isn't the H3 a competitor to the FJ Cruiser already?

a more affordable hummer!! thats awesome!!! since the H3 starts around $30,000, im sure this one will be priced right around 24,990...sweet!

Wow, and I thought the H2 was diluting the brand when it was introduced years ago. Why does GM have so many brands yet not know how to stay in a niche? Increased sales aren't always good. They should look at what Toyota is doing with Scion.

M3

Now that the H1 is dead, Hummer needs more than just two models (H2/H3) to sell, so I can understand the introduction of another vehicle. They REALLY need to pay attention to the power-to-weight ratio, though. The H3, especially, is much too heavy and very underpowered. Hopefully the H4 will be quicker and lighter.

Paul

The HUMMER is coming? That sounds risque...

The H4 will probably be based on the Equinox/Torrent they way they are going.

An H5 based on a Suzuki Vitara?

An H6 based on a SMART with big tires?

An H7 made from a quad runner?

An H8 begat from an off road SEGWAY?

Will the madness ever end?
Who needs all this off road stuff anyway when nobody goes off road, and who wants to beat up a $30-50,000 truck??

Troy

I hope they've worked out the reliability issues. I think a smaller Hummer is a step in the right direction towards better fuel economy. A larger customer pool will be achieved as well if it's priced lower than earlier Hummers.

Mike

"[R]ight direction towards better fuel economy"? Hah! Already a fuelish monstrosity with that H3...and that's considered "small." Whatever.

So will this wretched thing also be as big as a tank and as useful as the Lincoln pickup truck (whatever THAT was called)?

M3

That was the Lincoln Blackwood, a colossal flop for Ford. Might be a rare collectible someday, though.

Oh senor, Buenos Aires es muy hermosao, pero muchas "casas de idolatria"
Pero pickpokers and putas gordas(!que culo grande!)
Va a Rio, es marvilloso

The H3 is already one of the most illogical vehicles on the road. Perhaps buyers want yet another horribly handling, noisy, coarse, jarring vehicle that is among the slowest, overweight pieces of nonsense on the road, when they could have gotten a Wrangler for half as much as they wasted on paying for a name to pretend they're military toughguys.

Hummer customers are chumps.

I would like to see an H4. If you don't like the Hummer Brands exercise your right as a consumer and buy something else. I will spend my money as I see fit (the money the government does not take that is) and you should as well.

jyd

I'm afraid I have to agree with Jim. $30k+ is a lot of money to spend for a Chevy Colorado with oversize wheels and tires (er, I mean, an H3). Well, I guess it's better than spending $50k+ for a Silverado with the same disguise (H2)

Eric W.

Wouldn't be interested in a Wrangler-style Hummer, but would like to see a reasonably priced Hummer PU.

Those who call a Hummer H3 "A Colorado", or an H2 "a Silverado" don't know Jack! That's like calling a slab of marble "a rock"! I know of an engineer whose company went over an H3 with a fine tooth comb and called it the Best Engineered vehicle on the market! If your a Jeep fan, that's ok, Jeeps are sweet, but Hummers are sweet, too!

jyd

I'm not a Jeep fan or a Hummer fan. I have nothing against them personally. They're just not for me. Facts are facts however. The H2 is basically a Silverado underneath. The H3 is a Colorado beneath the skin. They are beefed up a bit but mainly to handle the extra weight of the body and the unsprung weight of the oversized wheels. I don't doubt they are engineered well and are tough. Many people believe that the Hummers are entirely different vehicles. The original was an entirely different animal but the H3 and H2 are largely from the GM parts bin.

yeah, its cheaper that way! duh! and if we are going to play that game, take a look at honda, toyota, dodge, chrysler, and hrm, lets see ALL AUTOMAKERS DO IT! this isn't anything new, if each vehicle had its own platform and parts, it would cost alot of $$$, thats why ALL automakers share parts with other vehicles in their brands.

hey wait I DONT REMEMBER SEEING AN H4 CONCEPT AT THE DETROIT AUTOSHOW!!! CARS.COM LIED!!!

jyd

Yes, it is common knowledge that all automakers share platforms and parts as a cost saving measure. I wasn't trying to educate anyone on cost control measures of the automotive industry. I was commenting on the general perception of Hummer buyers that the vehicles are more "military spec" or tougher than anything else out there. It is a marketing ploy and nothing more. The difference between Hummer and say, Chevy/Pontiac, is that the Chevy and Pontiac cars are similarly priced with similar performance and mileage figures. The Colorado and H3 are priced very differently. What I find interesting is the willingness to spend the extra bucks for how it makes you feel. It's not for me but that's what makes America great. Buy what you want. You don't have to please me, just yourself.

Blue Ice

I have an 2006 Black totally loaded H3 Hummer and I wouldnt trade it for the world...It is LIKE NOTHING ELSE....I love my Hummer and it is totally worth every dime that I paid for it..I have also dressed it up with accessories...and it is really a sharp vehicle...Yeap..I would buy another one. (PS--I traded in an 04 Kia Amanti for my H3)

bigman

Hummers are like refrigderator boxes on wheels only less aerodynamic. They are for guys who wish they had big c@#kS and woman w/ severe p#n^S envy. Sorry, that's the truth. They're shi^^y vehicles and the people who drive them are seriously lacking in morals or decent taste.

x

is hummer h4 going to be a concept? i hope not

Ascender

"Hummer drivers wish they had big dicks". This idiodic, classless statement from the moron who criticizes the morals and taste of Hummer drivers.

littleman

Well, my wife just test drove an h3 alpha yday. she loved it. i get a supplier discount - even without it, i would buy one. oh yeah, i almost forgot - i have a large member and my wife is hot.

Victor

If they make the H-4 the right way, I will buy one. Something that can be a weekend toy(back-road explorer), the convertable, and the daily driver-work and back(good mpg)!!! It could be done. Will GM build it? I doubt it. They just keep putting out the gas guzzlers. They could make one that gets 50mpg with a little turbo diesel but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Lets keep the oil companies rolling in the cash.
